Audi Sales Momentum Continues To Impress Up 34.8% In March
Audi today reported its March U.S. sales set a record for the month, rising 33.5% from a year earlier. The results also helped Audi achieve the best first-quarter sales since it began marketing cars in the U.S., and sent 2010 year-to-date sales up 34.8%.

In the most recent month, Audi U.S. sales reached 8,589 luxury cars and SUVs, compared to 6,433 in March 2009. That topped the previous March sales record set in 2007. First quarter sales in 2010 topped the previous record set in the first quarter of 2007. Strong demand across the Audi model lineup led to the record U.S. March results.

"It’s one thing to improve on sales from a year earlier when the U.S. economy was in a malaise,” said Johan de Nysschen, President, Audi of America. “But it says something more profound about the Audi momentum story when the brand notches a record sales month in 2010 and a record sales quarter.”

Audi A5 sets single-month sales record
Strong demand for the luxury performance Audi A5/S5 coupes continued in March with sales rising 59.8% over March 2009 and an increase of 41.8% from the first three months of 2009.

Sales of the Audi A5 Cabriolet in March reached their highest monthly level. The A5 Cabriolet arrived in the U.S. market last August. Combined A5/S5 coupe and cabriolet sales increased 154.9% in March 2009 from a year earlier.

Big increase for Audi A3, lead by the ‘2010 Green Car of the Year’
Demand for the Audi A3 luxury compact car jumped 100% from a year earlier. Audi A3 sales increased 109.2% through the first three months of 2010 compared to the same period in 2009.

Those gains were due to strong sales of the A3 TDI model, which is the reigning 2010 Green Car of the Year. The clean diesel Audi A3 TDI continued to top forecasts by comprising 49.5% of the model’s sales mix.

Audi Q5, Audi Q7 March sales see big gains
The Audi Q5 crossover has consistently ranked among the most highly sought Audi vehicles since its debut in early 2009. Sales of the versatile Q5 increased 55.5% in March from a year earlier and 60.5% when compared to February 2010 sales.

The Audi Q7 SUV also gained in March with sales that finished 19.4% higher than a year earlier. The Q7 TDI clean diesel model remains a hit with consumers, making up 40.9% of the sales mix for the most recent month.

Audi Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) sales fell 10.4% in February from a year earlier largely due to constricted inventories.

Didn't the new A6 just came out recently? The Q5 numbers are surprising. But we really need all AWD Q5 TDI. Doesn't anyone know if its coming to the US?

The A6 is a great value in the market place today. Audi has been conducting an educational refresh campaign on the car in recent months with it's US sales staff. They are giving Navigation away for free on the car which represents an $1800 savings on all models of the car. The leases are competitive now more than ever and the price is extremely competitive ranging from $44K to $56K loaded to the hilt. Good press from Car and Driver backing it all up and the car is moving pretty good. Still, the numbers should be much higher for this car. It's the number one selling luxury car in the world 3yrs running but the US is still the worst market in the world for this car.

The A6 is a remarkably good car. When I drove it, it just about kills everything possible right now.

That's because Audi offers fwd models on everything besides the A8,R8,and Q7. BMW will only offer FWD on there compact city cars, and that should be enough to stay number one, with out diluting the brand the extent of Audi where the line between luxury car and fancy VW is indistinguishable. How many audi's have VW roots/parts sharing? lets count, A3 chassis and engines,A4 engines, Q5 chassis and engines, Q7 chassis and engines, tt engines. Audi can sell all the cars they want, there still crap.

I'm going to repost this article snippet that more or less credits Audi for bringing VW out of the dark ages and suggests to me that VW has Audi roots and not the other way around. Note that they've been producing FWD cars since the 20s, so the idea that FWD represent a "dilution of the brand" is ludicrous.

"From a modern perspective of short model cycles, it’s difficult to fully grasp VW’s situation in the sixties and early seventies. They had been building essentially the same car for some thirty five years. The Beetle and its offshoots were a global phenomena and success story of remarkable scope and dimension. But VW knew it would some day have to replace its cash cow, but it was terrified of the prospect and possible failure. What could possibly replace the most widely built and iconic car in the world?...

"In the end, and just like in my serendipitous picture, the answer was right under their nose, and where it had been since 1964: Audi. VW bought Audi from Mercedes in that year (imagine if that hadn’t happened), and Audi had been building FWD cars since the twenties. In the early seventies, Audi had just finished developing their superb Audi 80 (US Fox), including a very advanced and compact OHC four to power it, the EA827. And Audi was already at work on an even smaller, highly space-efficient transverse-engine FWD hatch, the Audi 50. Bingo! Everything VW needed was at hand, if they could just get their arrogant head out of their rear (engine stubbornness)."

Like BMW is staying true to its roots, LOL! BMW and FWD! 5er GT! Look at BMW losing focus day by day. Gee, I wonder why BMW decided to offer FWD?? Maybe because they realized they would get absolutely spanked by Audi in the global sales race if they didn't. Talk about selling out....

It's a great thing that Audi is controlled by VW. Audi benefits with economies of scale, and a huge corporate backdrop. Look at BMW's ridiculously small profit. Good luck in churning out the ultimate driving machine when you have little money to work with.

Look at BMW's profits being so damn low compared to Audi's. Audi saves so much $$$ meanwhile BMW wastes their cash on creating FWD.

Yeah but are you getting an Audi or a VW? Is it worth the extra money when the same engine is in a jetta? Are they over priced? Its going to be the one series and city cars that will be FWD not over half their lineup like Audi! LOL! I dont care if BMW has the largest profit margin or sells the most cars, BMWs are still better cars then audis. While they may have drifted a little from there roots bmw still makes bmws, and they are all great to drive. The brand new S4 barely beat the 5 year old 3 series, and was actually bested by the bmw in handling, and the new 3 is coming out next year!.Also the V8 R8 with its supercar looks isnt any faster then a M3.

911gt3rs - You say BMWs are better cars than Audis. I assume you've owned recent models of both brands to be qualified to make this statement? I know several people who have switched from BMWs to Audis and think Audis are better. "Better" is certainly a nebulous thing to define and can be quite subjective but, when several tests conducted by automotive publications have recently placed Audis ahead of BMWs, you need to stand up and take notice and stop your denial. You are certainly entitled to have your preference but don't come here throwing about some random facts to make Audis look bad. I've heard every argument in the book from BMW fan boys here: Audis are less expensive than BMWs, Audi sells fewer cars than BMWs, Audis don't handle as well as BMWs, Audis are FWD. The fact of the matter is, Today's Audis present a solid alternative to BMWs for those who want a more complete package and are not fixated on RWD or some specific aspect of the car's handling than only matters when pushing the limits on a race track.

Justacar I owned a 04 A4 and currently have an 09 M3. The funny thing about "random facts" is they are still facts.

nut- I said the v8 R8...if you even read what i wrote, which i dont think you did. You ramble on about the V10 and god knows what else in your delusional rant(i could easily claim the r8 v10 would be trashed by the s1000rr). Its hard to debate with someone who cant form a rational argument, just contradicting everything i say doesn't work.

BMW has never made a car to challenge Audi's truly amazing R8 5.2 V10. The M3 would be trashed by the Audi R8 5.2 V10.

The Audi R8 is yet another perfect example of how being owned by the Volkswagen Auto Group has benefitted Audi tremendously. Audi simply borrowed some design cues, engines, and other parts from its corporate cousin, Lamborghini, and look at what an amazing car Audi was able to create at probably 1/8 of the cost that it would cost BMW to make a similar car.

It doesn't matter if the Audis are FWD because for each FWD car available in the respective class (A4, A6, A8, etc) you can get the same car with Quattro AWD.

It also doesn't matter if you can get the same engine in a Jetta. By taking a Jetta engine and putting it in an Audi, Audi saves a tremendous amount of money that has boosted its profitability way beyond BMW's current profitability and certainly future profitability. The higher profit gives Audi far more money to invest in R&D and future products than BMW will be able to.

BMW doesn't have the largest profit margin, Audi does. The brand new S4 defeated the BMW 3-series because it is the complete package. Sure, the BMW may have handled better, but BMW is so focused on handling that it gives up points in other areas such as interior design/ergonomics, chassis response, and grip.

Just look at the worldwide sales race. Audi is on a tear both in the United States and globally not just this year, but over the last three years. Audi' sales have risen far more, and dropped far less than both BMW and Mercedes-Benz over the last three years. Audi is now using an awesome marketing campaign stating how they are defeating BMW routinely in Car and Driver's comparison tests and the sales results are showing.

Audi is clearly building a great product at a great price, while not giving away the cars through cheap lease deals like BMW does. Best of all, Audi's sales results over the past three years are a clear reflection of its succes. In fact, Audi is going to surpass Mercedes-Benz this year in global sales to become the world's second-best selling premium brand with only BMW in its path accoring to an expert study published in late 2009 (Audi already outsold Mercedes-Benz globally for the first quarter of 2010). With Audi's cars getting better with each new re-design, BMW will be the next to fall, and BMW will fall to second place before 2015.

911gt3rs, I don't just contradict everything you say. The difference is I post facts. You post lies, or your own personal opinion.

1) Audis being overpriced is your opinion, 911gt3rs

2) Since when does FWD decide how good the car is all-around and not just in handling (Are we forgetting design, interior ergonomics, chassis, fuel economy, etc.)

3) BMW does not have the largest profit margin, Audi does (You lied here)

4) Is "better" for you, 911gt3rs, based on how the car handles? It sure looks like it to me because unfortunately "better" for the car magazines that compared the S4 to the 335i, better handling did not equal the "better" car.

5) Barely beat the 5-year old 335i? I wouldn't call the S4's 5 comparison test wins "barely" beating the 335i. More like an ass-kicking, if you ask me.

said i dont care if they have the largest profit margin, meaning if they do or do not. read again.

on a five year old car, wait till the 335is is out...

"2) Since when does FWD decide how good the car is all-around and not just in handling (Are we forgetting design, interior ergonomics, chassis, fuel economy, etc.)"

FWD is great, especially on an 40K A6! we just have to make sure we compare Audis to Acura from now on, not BMW.

BMW has the most balanced chassis. not the nose heavy vw/audi. ever drive an M3 universally praised for its balance.

Audi has a large profit margin b/c they are overpriced when compared to the competition, and considering they share parts with VW...the consumer is getting ripped off!

isn't BMW the most fuel efficient luxury brand? Im almost positive audi isn't.

Of course, because, FWD/AWD determines who your competitors are?

So what if BMW has the most balanced chassis, the poor ergonomics, and design almost cancel out any advantages.

BMW, most fuel-efficient premium brand? Not a chance. Audi's TDI engines are more fuel efficient on average.

911gt3rs, put your crayons down and change your diapers already. Your attempt to make BMW somehow better gets lost in your translation of poor knowledge and zero facts regarding Audi. Overpriced? By whose measure? Obviously your since you cannot afford one. You fabricate and outright lie regarding Audi platforms, parts, etc. Study before you speak. Didn't your kindergarten teacher teach you that today in school?
