NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: Acura's TSX Wagon Debuts AND Gets Harpooned By An Outlet, Are They Right?

NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: Acura's TSX Wagon Debuts AND Gets Harpooned By An Outlet, Are They Right?
The TSX wagon is here but someone is disappointed. The publication, that shall go unnamed, said that there is plenty to dislike since it lacks a V6 or diesel engine option and a manual transmission.

The gentleman ends his story with "Sorry Honda, but you f*$@ed this one up." Well, it is not like it is the first time...

I do not understand why the publication is surprised. I mean, the brand has been putting out compromised vehicles for quite some time now.

Acura has been meandering through the automotive world for a long time and realistically, the only cars the company put out that were the total package were:

1) Acura Legend
2) Acura NSX
3) Last-gen Acura TL Type-S
4) Acura MDX

Note: Total package is defined as brilliant styling, competitive powertrains and acceptable execution.

This is why 001 questioned whether it was time for Acura to call it quits already.

What say you, Spies?

Are the boys from the other publication dead-on OR are they being too harsh?

I agree on all points. Additionally, the lack of AWD in this segment is unforgivable. Why even bother?

It's an wagon for the brand's loyalists and lineup, nothing more than that.

Acura has brand loyalists?

Someone please tell me what's up with the beak? Does no one at Honda see that this thing is hideous? Why is it still there? It has been universally panned. Every review of every Acura written over the last few years (even the favorable ones) has had a line somewhere in it similar to this; "Once you get past the controversial front end treatment....."

What up with the Snuffleupagus face?

So sad to see what was at one time my favorite auto company go down the drain.I'll miss the golden days with the old school civics,crx,NSX,99' style tl and tl-s, cl and cl-s,legend and integra. Even the TSX and RSX were nice when they FIRST came out.Honda and Acura have been a dissapointment for the last 6-7 yars. :(

I was really hoping to see the TSX wagon with the same V-6 package that is now offered in the sedan (which includes larger wheels and a stiffer suspension). I would have settled for a turbocharged 4, which is offered in other Acura models. Bringing out his car with a naturally aspirated 4 is a really stupid blunder! Acura claims that this car is intended to compete head-on with the BMW 328 and Audi A4 wagons, WHICH IT DOES NOT! The BMW has a 6 and the A4 has a turbocharged 4 - both cars will blow away a TSX with its 4 cylinder engine and soft suspension. The TSX 4 only has 178 ft, pounds of torque, which is not much for a car that touts itself as a "sports" wagon. With this setup, it cannot compete with BMW or Audi (except for price). Lack of all wheel drive is also an issue, but the engine choice is the killer - that could have easily been solved, since they already have a great V-6 in the lineup!

Astute comments and valid points. Most of these should have been no-brainers in this price class.

It'll sell well enough.

I lost all faith in Acura.

They axe the NSX in place we get the pointless ZDX. They're sticking with the universaly hated beak (Subaru was smart enough to bail on the "winged vagina grill after two years) A few years ago the announce the were going to be a "teir one" car company, then they cancel RWD and anything bigger the a 6 cylinder. Now they bring a ill-equipped wagon to the U.S. market, that doesn't buy wagons. Acura is the an example of how to run a luxury brand into the ground.

Acura is the new Saab.

I think that there is a market for wagons will increase as fuel costs increase because SUV's and SAV's, pound for pound, use more fuel - and really do not offer any advantage overly comparably sized wagons, other than size. In Europe, about half of the cars are either wagons or hatchbacks - with SUV's and SAV's being rather rare. Why? Europeans have to be more fuel conscious with gas at $6 to $8 a gallon. The TSX wagon that is now being introduced could have been great, but Acura screwed it up. For one market segment, a diesel should have been brought in. Look how successful the Jetta TDI wagon is - dealers can't keep them on the lot. For the BMW and Audi crowd, the TSX wagon should have AWD and either diesel, V6 or a turbocharged 4 or a choice of any of them and a firmer suspension. The naturally aspirated 4 and a soft suspension on what is being offered misses the market altogether. This is a mom's carpooler - not a "sportwagon" as they are touting.

Rebadged Accord wagon. Typical over-priced Japanese garbage.

Huu would buy this if he didn't already have an RX momma wagon
