ANOTHER Reason Why Driving A Car Is Better Than Riding A Bike
The New York Times reports:

Courses designed to make new motorcyclists safer are not decreasing crashes, according to a new study by the Highway Loss Data Institute, an affiliate of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. However, research also shows that helmets and antilock brakes on motorcycles are life savers.

“We are not saying they aren’t supposed to get training, but we need to have realistic expectations about what training can do,” said Anne McCartt, the senior vice president for research at the Insurance Institute, which is funded by the insurance industry.

These findings are part of a number of studies the institutes have just released on motorcycles. The groups have looked at antilock brakes, helmet laws and rider training programs to see what role they play in keeping riders safe and preventing deaths...

I don't think this makes driving a car better than riding a motorcycle. If a person with good driving habits gets on a motorcycle and develops good riding habits then he or she is likely to be safe either way. I ride and I can tell you that many things that happen on a motorcycle (or should I say OFF a motorcycle, because that's where things generally go wrong) happen because the rider is being careless or reckless.

"Bike" doesn't work in the headline here.

I'll take a car over a "bicycle" any day of the week.

The phrase "riding a bike" is synonymous with bicycles, as bikers ride motorcycles. Cyclists ride bikes.

I'll never own a bike. And why helmets are not required is beyond me. I saw a guy with his fat lady on the back yesterday, he had his helmet on, but nothing for her. At least put some tape over her nasty crack. Bikes are synonymous for having hot girls on or next to them in magazines. However in real life 90% of bikers have fatties straining the rear suspension.

A couple in the suburbs of Chicago were riding their motorcycle. They were exiting the highway and they swiped a guard rail. The bike then struck a curb and sent both of them flying off the bike. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the man died later at the hospital. BOTH were wearing helmets but the womans helmet shattered. How in the hell a helmet "shatters" I dont know but if they can shatter, whats the point of them? Ive always wanted a bike for summer nights or the weekends but Im okay now, I'd rather be in a car.

Spies we need an edit button! I just thought about my post above. There is a point in a helmet. That was stupid to say. I just realized though that seatbelts dont always save lives in car accidents...

I love sports cars and I love bicycles and used to race them. But I've always made a promise to myself that I would never combine the two interests and strap on a motorcycle. I know I love it. I would also be dead within 3 months.
