Man Vs. Camera: Florida Representative Fights Back

Man Vs. Camera: Florida Representative Fights Back
The Truth About Cars reports:

A Florida state representative is standing athwart the legislative juggernaut that seeks to expand the use of red light cameras throughout the state. Representative Rob Schenck (R-Spring Hill) last month won approval by a 7 to 5 vote from the House Governmental Affairs Policy Committee for his bill expressly preempting the ability of local jurisdictions to operate automated ticketing machines.

“Current law requires that traffic citations be issued when an officer observes the commission of a traffic infraction,” the official legislative analysis for House Bill 1235 explained. “A 2005 attorney general opinion also reached the same concluding providing that legislative changes are necessary before local governments may issue traffic citations and penalize drivers who fail to obey red light indications on traffic signal devices as collected from a photographic record from unmanned cameras monitoring intersections… This bill could have a negative fiscal impact on those governments having installed red light cameras and on those local governments using such cameras to generate revenue through the collection of civil fees or fines.”

I see nothing wrong with Red Light Cameras.

I guess the Idiot just wants to please those who get dunk and run red lights, occasionally killing other innocent people.

What does drunk driving and running red light cameras have to do with one another. Most people who set off redlight cameras are completly sober.

If you truly wish to prevent people from running lights...teach them the correct way to drive in drivers ed. And not the quick and quite happenstance method we use today.

I firmly believe that driving should be taught at all high schools similar to most elective classes. However make it mandatory for all high school freshman and sophmores to pass...before they get their learners. Then another year on learners before a provisional licence (excluding friends from riding in the car while your driving). Then finally a year after they get their provisional licence for them to obtain their full licence. This would be 4 full years of training prior to a teenager being allowed on the roads fully licenced.

Or if you don't go to high school, you must apply for a 2 year community course that teaches the equivalent. Then follow the same remaining steps after obtaining your learners permit as everyone else. A few weeks of Drivers ed does not a competent driver make.

And course material should focus on driving in traffic and inclement weather alot more. Plus how to recover from an oversteer/understeer or skid/slide as well as the proper way to use your transmission in inclement weather.

None of which is taught nowadays.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME !!!!!!!!!

The list of people KILLED by drivers that run red lights is Staggering.
Are you some sort of moron ?

The lights in the UK are programmed to only take a picture if you cross the white line after the lights are red not while they are Amber so there is absolutely no excuse if you get flashed unless you were moving out of the way for Emergency Vehicles { And in that case you can contest the ticket and will Win }

The way your mind works frightens me. Speeding on Highways is safe so long as you have a decent vehicle and are a decent driver so Speed Cameras can be accurately described as Revenue Generators.

However there is almost no reason i can think of that will justify Running Red Lights and i can promise you that if Any Member of my family is killed by somebody who ran a Red Light, I will not even wait for the Law to Exact Justice.

You Idiots seem to think you can do anything you feel like, when you feel like it and get away with it.

FYI:
Just 1 Example of 2 Lifes Snuffed Out by a Red Light Runner:

This was the Lead Singer of an R & B Group called H-Town.

"On January 28, 2003, 28-year-old Dino Conner and his girlfriend Teshya Rae Weisent had just left a recording studio when their vehicle was struck by a SUV that ran a red light. Both Dino and Weisent were killed."

"According to BET's sources, the singer and his girlfriend, whose name has not yet been released, were leaving a recording studio at approximately 2:30 AM Tuesday morning in Houston when the accident occurred, sending his car crashing into a Houston-area river. Apparently, the bodies were disfigured so badly that medics were unable to identify them until today (Jan. 31)."

Not to mention those who go through yellow and it turns red right as they are in an intersection or just about through it. They get nabbed and it's just lame. If you just put a few additional seconds between red/green lights for alternate roads then you would allow everyone plenty of time to stop, get through, and then the next lanes can move on.

That is a completely different argument to the Principle of Red Light Cameras.

If a state wishes to manipulate the parameters of the Camera Sensitivity that is totally wrong and i am sure some hot shot Lawyer in that Wonderful Country called the USA will File a Suit to Challenge it and will probably win.

Read my post above about the way the cameras are used in the UK and why i think it is perfectly acceptable.
