NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: Is Infiniti's Essence The NEXT-Gen G?

NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: Is Infiniti's Essence The NEXT-Gen G?
This is the car that Infiniti has been touring across the globe. Not only has it been gallivanting internationally, the car made its way across the United States in an intriguing tour.

With that said, this car has been to a lot of different markets -- predictably the key ones for Infiniti -- and it is still being shown at the 2010 New York Auto Show although it has had its time in the spotlight. So, this either means two things:

1) Infiniti has nothing else to show

2) Infiniti is showing this car so much in order to gauge the public's opinion on its design

Assuming it is number two, it would make a lot of sense if the Essence was going to be a large inspiration for the upcoming G replacement.

If you compare the Essence's design language to the 2011 Infiniti M, you will quickly see the company is adopting this sensual and curvaceous look into their modern cars.

So, is the all-new G going to be a drop-dead ringer for the Essence?

We want to know what you like/hate about the Essence and if you want to see it become the next Infiniti G.

Let us know in the comments below...

Producing a supercar like SLR, LFA, R8 V10 and Carrera GT makes little sense in the financial department of an auto company..But it propels the brand in prestige and luxury. If a car is unattainable it psychologically lures the customer to buying the next best thing, driving people to buy SL350's, Carrera's and TT's..

An Infinite ultra luxury super car based on the GT-R would serve the brand hugely in recognition and prestige...

1) and 2) are not mutually exclusive. In fact after seeing the QX I'd rather they showed the old stuff.......

Badgewhore, the 2000 Caddy Deville had full LED tails. What Infiniti was before that?

Badgewhore,

that is what I meant, I like everything about this car but they need to put the last gen G and current G LED TL on it. FYI the Infiniti has LED on 2003 or 2004 model as well not 2006 like you stated.

I love the G35 and G37 LED TL, especially on the coupe. And I am actually waiting to get a G37 sport coupe in Black Obsidian, hopefully by the end of this year would be nice.

agreed the G sedan and coupe's led tail lights are stunning.

This is a great looking concept. I think it will transition quite well into production.

Looks like something out of the "Clockwork Orange" movie from 1970.

As for this design, it really is quite stunning, it definitely moves the G coupe away from the smaller 2-doors and more into exotic looking territory. In all honesty it looks a lot like a Aston Martin Vanquish.

This car looks awesome and if it were the next G, then it'll be an instant hit. I say leave as is, make the small modifications for production sake and bring it to the market.
Both Infiniti and Nissan, IMO, rested too much on their success from early 2000s when their current line came out. They need to be bolder and this is a fine example of what needs to keep coming from them.

The G35 has had LED tail lights since it first came out in april of 2002 as an early release 2003 model. They never claimed is to be the first profduction car to have them but probably the first car under 35k and back in 2000 who was actually even looking at cadi's?? so does it actually count?

Chris, I think you are replying to me. I simply wanted to know what car Badgewhore was talking about. I couldn't think of an Infiniti that had LED tails before the DTS.

As for who was looking at the Deville, well lots of people. The article below mentions over a million sold between 1994 and 2005.

Just because something doesn't fit your personal tastes doesn't mean it isn't sold to other people.

91z4me, these fanbois don't let facts get in their way. I wouldn't climb into their pigpen if I were you.

Honestly I wasn't trying to be mean or insulting. I just couldn't think of or find an Infiniti model with LED tails. I thought for sure if any did it had to be the Q45 but it didn't have it. I was looking for clarification and then defended myself and my position from attacks. I hold no ill will.

I would rather it be a stand-alone car or become the coupe version of the M. Infiniti could stand to have a real competitor in the premium coupe segment to compete with the BMW 6 series and Mercedes SL. Of ccourse, the next G could borrow heavily from the Essence design cues.

I think they should go head with it. Give the BMW a run for its money. Infiniti rules

It would be amazing if this was the next gen G coupe. However, I really don't think so. Remember the current generation concept when it was first shown? It was a great design that got watered down. I think the same thing would happen here.

It wasn't watered down that much at all. Just the interior.
