Just to clarify Will, it was an A4 2.0T, with the S-Line package, not to be confused with an S4 which would be a completely different class of car. The S-Line is a type of Sport Package available on the regular A4.

As much as I prefer German cars, I have to agree with Johnny Wolf...it is quite ignorant to say that an LS400 is just a rebadged Toyota. It could almost be compared to calling an Audi a rebadged VW.

The comment I have to contest is --" does not share any parts with any Toyota." I find that incredibly hard to believe, that's how big companies cut costs. Even if it's just power window and door lock switches...They do share components.

And vinyl is quite abundent in the lower line Lexus models. Just look at the door panels, and areas that aren't as noticeable on the seats. You will find miles of vinyl.

Most all cars have vinyl. Note when viewing "leather seating surfaces". Only the parts your bum touches is leather, all else is the faux stuff. I've driven pretty much all mainstream luxury marques, and they all have pros and cons. What you bring home to your garage should make you happy. And if the choices are tough, that's a great thing! Automakers cannot rest on their laurels, give us customers what we want :-)

For the record lets get a few minor details straight. Lexus is a re-badged Toyota Like it or Lump it. Audi is not a re-badged VW although they do share. Audi was a stand alone company up until shortly after the depression when they became part of the Auto Union and VW acquired them in the late 60's. They existed before the partnership with VW. Lexus did not. Up until recently Lexus only existed in the US as we tend to get all caught up in names. And JMd you are so correct on all of your points. Well put! I happen to own an A4 2.0 and an A8L. Both 2006 cars and I love them both. I owned a Lexus for 2 months and traded out of it for a VW Passat which I loved. Lets face it, Lexus makes a nice looking yet bland driving car. It suits a different taste than an Audi or BMW. And about the IS350 beating the A4 3.2, sure it did. But strictly through horse power take those same cars auto crossing or even on a canyon run and the A4 will prevail. The bench mark in the industry for fit and finish is not Lexus, it is Audi. And all this talk of vinyl, all those well informed know what JMd was speaking of and to further his info, animal rights activist and vegans put a lot of pressure on manufacturers to offer substitutes and to use less of the animal types of materials. Why do you think Alcantara is becoming so popular in cars? By the way Johnny there are very few manufacturers that do not share parts and Toyota is not one of them. Your part cost $400.00 because it said Lexus on it. The same plant builds it but how do you justify the higher ticket price on the car if you charge the same for the parts regardless of brand? Don't be fooled. The Lexus i owned for two months before trading it in had one of the side view mirrors break and the tech told me the replacement glass was $400.00 + install because the glass "used special crystals". I've owned many cars from VW Rabbits to an MB AMG E55 and never came acroos that line of bs.
