Matte Color Cars - Will The Trend SIZZLE or FIZZLE
As we have been following for several months now, matte colored cars have been popping up just about everywhere.

First it was because of vinyl wraps that were easily applied/removed on supercars. It was cool because the legit paint underneath was protected and the vinyl looked very clean and for a lack of a better word, un-vinyl-like.

Recently though, it appears that several manufacturers have begun producing matte paint jobs for their vehicles. From what I understand, Mercedes-Benz was the first to produce a fully matte painted vehicle with the E63 AMG wagon. Now, they have the 2011 SL Night Edition, BMW has been making a Frozen Gray M5 and some exotic companies will do just about anything, provided you have the cash flow.

With that said, it appears that this paint has reached its peak.

Today, 001 was at an exclusive event for the Rolls-Royce of cameras, the Hasselblad H4D40 in Hollywood when he spotted a matte black Audi avant.

Oh yeah, the camera -- with lens -- he shot these images with cost a menial $35,000.

But we want to know, is it going to soar higher or fizzle out before we know it?

Matte automotive finishes have their place, but it's really losing its cache due to overuse/abuse, as not every vehicle takes well to the 'Stealth' look.

Prediction: A year from now, it'll probably be considered passe.

I disagree. Only a few cars can look good with matte. and some look amazing. with that said, don't be surprised to see a stunning looking Ferrari [or anything that looks great] with matte any time in the future. (If this topic was about spinner wheels, then that's another story)..

What are you on about?

The guy already said that "few cars can look good with matte", or didn't you understand what, "not every vehicle takes well to the 'Stealth' look" means?

Matte paint will be the "pastelle color" of the 21st Century.

Regarding the title of this article, "matte" is not a colour, but a finish. What colour is my car? Apparently it's "glossy".

It all started when we would customize our hot rods and do our own body work and the car was our ony source of transportation. After a while the primer being washed many times became a matte finish. Recently the Rat Rod has become very popular and the matte finish is back. Its a trend and I like it. Long live the Rat Rod.

people have lost their appreciation (if they ever had any) for the superbly BEAUTIFUL LOOK of modern paints.

i myself only gained full appreciation after looking more closely at new cars with a friend who had studied body work, and did painting himself.

even "lowly toyotas" have incredibly deep, lustrous, metallic paint jobs. i was particularly impressed once at a moonlit beach party in hawaii. a woman had a pearlescent white toyota (don't even recall the model now) which LITERALLY GLOWED in the soft evening light. she said it was a Lexus paint selection, applied to that model.
