Infiniti to create a Bmw 1-Series rival that will use Daimler technology
Within the next two years, expect Infiniti to offer models with Daimler-sourced four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, according to the announcement from these two companies with regards to their tie-in.

Sources say that the two companies started working on this sharing project months ago. This collaboration is predicted to save Nissan about a billion Euros in development costs over the next five years. In an interview with Autocar, Nissan senior vice president Andy Palmer said that the key is to keep the identity of the Infiniti brand. He said that its engineers are working to make sure that the engines are made according to its preferences and will be made “more sporty.”

I hope NISSAN will come up w/ a new, smaller platform for 1-series rival and also use that for future Z, instead of scaling down G's. Z really needs to be within 3000 lb, w/ FI engine, not a big NA.

That would sound even better if that Infiniti 1-Series with a Benz diesel engine were to go on sale in the US, wouldn't it?

Would we buy a "smaller than G" Infiniti? I think a diesel in the G would be enough.

Sounds like a good plan. Make a nice looking light weight coupe, tune the engine to perform and price it resonably. So hurry up Nissan/Infiniti.

The Chrysler venture cost them nothing, it was a merger. Diamler got there hands on Chryslers cash [ in the billions] and now own Detroit Diesel, White Freightliner, Stearling etc. It's called rape and run.
