Is This What Audi's 2012 A6 Will Look Like? Will It Continue To Outsell the Competition Worldwide?

We surely can't say Audi has been lazy recently. The Bavarian carmaker has been churning out one new product after another, from the R8 supercar to the 10Best-winning S4, and the upcoming A1, a technology-laden premium city car.

But we haven't heard much lately from the comfy and powerful executive sedan that’s the backbone of the brand, the A6. And that’s because the current model is just about ready to retire. Its successor's design was locked in a year ago, and we expect the next car to be unveiled at any of this fall's upcoming auto shows, likely in Paris or Los Angeles.

Internally called C7, the next-generation A6 will be built on Audi's modular-longitudinal platform. This means its front axle moves further to the front, and the nose-heavy look of the current C6 will disappear. The front end, in fact, will look a lot like the Sportback concept, which is essentially the upcoming A7, which is due to launch this summer and is closely related to the A6.

Because of the redundancy in Audi's design, I like how the rendering above emphasizes more on CLS than E. Too bad the interior is gonna be limited because of the possible A7.

lol,That design is way to radical for Audi... It will probably look like an A4 but 5 inches longer.

Minus the headlights that photoshop looks exactly like an A4. I hope there are more differences design wise between A6 and A4 but seems unlikely and that's about what we are going to get.

From the side and back it remind me of the MB CLS. And I don't like how all the new Audi A4 and A6 models looking very similar to each other except longers.

Looks exactly like the a4, which looks exactly like the a8, so it's a safe bet that the middle model will look just like this.

And I think a better and more relevant question is, will they continue to sell less in a year than the competition does in a month here in the US.

Jugnu: All car makers when they find a statisfying design stay pretty true to that "look" throughout their lineup. I own a BMW and an Audi and both car company's models I notice employ similar body lines, cues and edges within each respective model and brand.

I like Audi. A lot. I just wish they'd lose the long nose overhang and the gaping "hole in the front" grill, for styling reasons.
