Mercedes-Benz To Produce A C-Class Coupe, Go Head-To-Head With 3 & A5

Mercedes-Benz To Produce A C-Class Coupe, Go Head-To-Head With 3 & A5
CAR Magazine reports:

Mercedes is readying a new coupé version of the C-class for launch in 2011. Aimed squarely at the Audi A5 and BMW 3-series Coupé set, the new 2011 C-class coupé will revive the CLK range which many had written off after the arrival of the new E-class Coupé.

In line with the new CL being rebranded S-class Coupé, the new two-door C will be badged C-class Coupé. It's due for launch in March 2011.

So it'll be a mini E-class Coupé?

Pretty much, yes. Our sources claim the two models will look quite different, despite sharing plenty of hardware under the skin...

Seems about right, Mercedes has always offered a larger portfolio of cars, not necessarily what sells well, but making sure to have all options available. The C-Coupe will compete with the 3er Coupe and the E-Coupe with the 6er. The S-Coupe has no match by either Audi or BMW so that is a niche that they get all to themselves. They're not trying to be a market leader in sales, but instead offer as many options for their customers (which I applaud). It is also why they offer AMG models of every one of their cars.

and Audi and Mercedes dont have a 6 series competitor its closest competition is the CLS because it is priced about the same. Otherwise the e class coupe is a step below the 6 series whos closest competitor outside of Germany would be the XK both of which are tens of thousands more than the clk-e class and is roughly the same size as the last CLK which means a new C class coupe would slot in with the 1 series like the last one did. Its ironic the last e class coupe was very expensive and a large car producing that car again would have made it a 6 competitor again like the last one and left more room for the c class coupe...
