Audi takes the leadership in all-wheel-drive vehicles worldwide sales
In 2009, Audi outsold all the other premium automotive producers in the world and has topped global sales for all wheel drive (AWD) vehicles. The carmaker made 316,824 vehicles equipped with its quattro AWD system, accounting for about a third of all vehicles sold by Audi for the year.

The quattro vehicle that had the highest sales was the Audi Q5 medium sized SUV, which recorded a production figure of 109,117 units. This global trend was also seen in Germany, where the quattro vehicles won over their competitors. Audi delivered 72,049 AWD cars last year, giving it its rightful top place in the premium segment.

I'm actually shocked only a third of Audi's sales are Quattro's, I would have expected that to be much higher.

The buying public must really love their FWD Audi's if that is the case.

This is not surprising at all. Audi is known around the world for its famed Quattro AWD system. The reason why AWD cars only comprise a third of Audi's annual sales is because Audi is very popular in warmer climates such as Miami, parts of southern China etc. where there is less need for the benefits of AWD.

In warm, non-snowy climates, you would think people would prefer the RWD competitors to the FWD found in Audi's.
