USED Car Showdown: 2004 Ferrari 360 Modena Vs. 2008 Audi R8

USED Car Showdown: 2004 Ferrari 360 Modena Vs. 2008 Audi R8
Here is where things get difficult.

You have $100,000 smackaroos and you want to go out and buy some mid-engine fun that is a bit eccentric and stands out from the crowd. But, you want to avoid the douchebag vibe that plagues a verde ithaca Lamborghini.

So, here are your choices:

A Ferrari 360 Modena

OR

An Audi R8 4.2 V8

Neither are lightning quick but both are handsome vehicles in their own respect, make noises that are to die for and will keep you thrilled for years.

Question is, what's it going to be AND why?

Having 100K to spend is one thing, having enough financial ressources to pay for maintenance and insurance premium is another one..

Emotional choice would be the red Ferrari, rational choice would be the Audi.

As a car enthusiast, I think I would end up with the 360 !

For 100k if i could be able to get a 360 Ferrari I would probably take that because I know that i would not be driving it on a daily basis so maintenance should not matter too much. Besides if you can get abstract art on wheels for $100k, why not?

Even though the R8 is a sexy ride I'd have to take the Ferrari...after all its a Ferrari!!! Nothing makes the panties drop like a Ferrari, I might go for a 360 convertible in black or dark gray but thats just me.

Or if I could find one i'd definitely get as much Porsche as I could find. I think I'd be able to pull off a 2 year old 911 Cabrio.

The Modena is a beautiful bit of kit. I'll take it over the Audi and hope I can do my own oil chenges :)

R8 for me, because Ferrari 360 are everywhere in northern Cali (silicon valley)like corollas. Also the R8 is more advanced in technology.

The Ferrari because it a Ferrari, dah.... I love the Audi R8 too, especially in white with black panel on the side. But got to go with the Ferrari.

I already have the R8, and its unquestionably a superior car to the Modena:

1)R8 is newer, 2004 is 6 years ago for gods sake..
2)R8 is better a car than the Modena in technical and perfromance aspects, the R8 is even better then the F430 IMO and I have driven an F430 for 2 weeks straight.
3)The R8 is possibly the most robust and reliable sports car on the market and the quattro is amazing for all weather and all terrain.
4)LED lights..enough said.
5)The R8 always gets more looks than the Modena...The Modena looks cheap and does not embody the sexiness and appeal of Ferrari..R8 always turns heads..
6)R8 looks like it came from the future, and it's built like it came from the future too..
7)R8 won an abundance of recognitions and awards, the Modena hasnt..
8) Better interior..even better than the F430 to be honest..

R8 > Modena in every department...Infact R8> F430..

I will concur that the solid interior and the omnipresent futuristic character of the R8 is mindblowing.

But the sound of a Ferrari V8 makes it a tough call.

Well, theman, I agree with your conclusion R8>360. BUT, the fact that they even compare illuminates the huge flaw in the R8. It is sadly underpowered for a car with a 130K (on average) price tag. R8 uses the same engine that powered the far less expensive RS4. And your claim that it is the most reliable and robust sports car on the market is flawed since the Porsche 911 objectively holds that title. The interior of the R8 is disappointing given the usual Audi brilliance with interiors. Time for you to step up to the V10 - at least that car is not a total performance embarrassment (again, relative to price and competition).

lol don't get a Ferrari then they are bigger brandwhores then lambo.

Agree - it's flawed to assume Lambo carries a bad cachet: even though I love Ferraris, nothing says "overcompensating" and "douchebag" quite like a car with the prancing horse. R8 for me...F430 might be a tougher call.

But if you get a 612 Scag then you are at least respectable and not a douchebag right?

You can get a nice 360 for about 80k then use the 20k to buy insurance, a new clutch and maintenance for 3 years.

More reliable then a properly maintained more modern car? I doubt it...the Ferrari 360 Modena doesn't even need an engine out service to change the timing belt because the rear firewall can be removed for easier access.

Having $100,000 would be great, but since I don't, I got my used car at Detroit Used Cars
