RENDERED SPECULATION: Do You Want To See BMW's NEXT 1-Series To Come In All Shapes/Sizes?
Reported on Bimmerpost from Auto Bild:

In this week’s issue of AutoBild they have an interesting articleon the new 1-er’s coming our way. I posted the pictures bellow my post.

The biggest news - I think is a new SportsVan based on the ONE. The magazine says it might be FWD or even AWD.

Some highlights:

2011 - three door, RWD
2011 – five door, RWD
2012 – coupe, RWD
2012 – Cabriolet, RWD
2013 – Sports Van, FWD or AWD
2013 – GT, FWD or AWD

1-er engines: all direct injection!

Gasoline engines

116i – 1.6L Turbo, 136 PS
118I –1.6L Turbo, 156 PS
120i – 2.0L, 177 PS (NA)
125i – 2.0 Turbo, 218 PS

Diesel engines

116d – 2.0 Turbo, 122 PS
118d – 2.0 Turbo, 150 PS
123d – 2.0 Bi-Turbo 204 PS

One interesting point they say is that the top performance models (ie: 135i) will always remain RWD...

I'd like to see them come priced more to the segment they were targeted for and not as a smaller 3-series replacement. I could imagine the look on previous 3 owners who walked in with a lease or financed trade for a new 3 only to be shown that they can now just afford a 1-series. What a joke.

BMW prices have actually decreased over the last twenty years when corrected for inflation. And, this is while the cars have gained in size and content. I am not sure where your tone of contempt is coming from.

Anything, but the clown car styling we currently have. I can't believe people pay 35K and up for this just to say they have a BMW. Sheesh. Talk about low self esteem.

Hey numbnuts, have you test driven a 135i yet?
No? Didn't think so or you'd know why people drive them..

Ah, this preteen again with BMW posters all over his wall. Ok. First of all, I was criticizing BMWs 1-series' design language, not performance. This car was introduced in 2004, thats 6 years ago in case your math isn't so good (from the sound of your comments). Design wise, it's a step back to current and past designs (front bumper overhang, plain stark interior, funny proportions). Now I know people like you only see the badge, but as an industrial designer you're just gonna have to take my word for it. Oh, by the way, industrial designers are the ones who design cars and any other mass produced products. Didn't think you knew this since you write at a 3rd grade level. Oh, and yes I have driven a 1 series, the convertible version at that. Never argued it's a great driver (fast, nimble, communicative), only it's dated design and its outrageous price point (competes in Europe with the high end golf and the Audi A3). Class dismissed!
