TOYOTA UNDER SIEGE: Sales Of Lexus GX460 Halted Over Safety Concerns
Toyota Motor Corp. suspended sales of the 2010 Lexus GX 460 on Tuesday after influential magazine Consumer Reports urged car shoppers not to buy the SUV, calling it a "safety risk" that could roll over.
Toyota said its engineers were "vigorously testing" the luxury model to identify the risk cited by Consumer Reports, which said the vehicle was prone to slide when driven in sweeping turns and gave it a "not acceptable" rating.

All too strange for me to be honest...Years and years of impeccable reputation and then you have this smear campaign by the US..It's all too sudden and too questionable IMO..I smell the stink of conspiracy by the US government and their affiliates...

wtf? smear campaign? the cars have REAL PROBLEMS. toyota has sacrificed quality for years now in order to grow. they are far more obsessed with being the BIGGEST than building the best quality cars.
does the US have problems, sure. are they related to toyota in any way, no. and if you're so unhappy with US, leave. i'll buy you a one-way ticket to anywhere you like in iran, china, north korea, etc.

How do you explain the problems in Asia, Europe, and Canada that go back back years? Seriously, try to explain that away with a US conspiracy fantasy.
One of MANY examples:
"Toyota was seeing numerous customer complaints about software problems in some of its models as early as 2004, according to documents filed as part of a Canadian lawsuit against the company"

There is a funny, yet serious, story about a Lexus owner's 17 year odyssey with his 3 Lexus' at:

I hope you find it entertaining. I wrote it. Enjoy!

In the late 90s and early 2000s, I remember that Mercedes and BMW tried to outdo each other by introducing a host of electronic functions and features and they both had reliability and quality issues with this "evolution" of technology in cars. Maybe Lexus is in that stage where it too is doing too much too soon in their cars. Couple that to lesser time to launching new models to keep up with other carmakers and you have what Lexus/Toyota is today. If this is the case, its time to go back to basics and reduce dependence on computers for the car's main functions like throttle acceleration, braking and steering.

Man-alive huu and badgewhore, do you guys work for Toyota/Lexus or have significant shares in Toyota or something? Anything bad about Toyota and you guys go on the rampage about conspiracy theory. I don't recall reading anything about Consumer Report being part of the US Gov't arms. I do recall Consumer Report being labeled as Japanese car lovers though (and in fact, been painted as anti-American by American car companies).

badgewhore, you are a racist. You blatantly MADE UP a racial scenario and claimed to know the outcome (of an event that you MADE UP). You should do yourself and the board a favor and think long and hard before you type again. Like maybe for a year or so.

I agree, something stinks- how did Toyota go from making some of the best cars in the world to being the US media's nightly top story for poor quality. I own the new GX460 & it's the nicest SUV I've ever driven- & I have owned several luxury cars & SUV's. The fix needed will probably be a minor computer flash that controls the stability control system, in the mean time my Lexus has just dropped in value by 50 percent. The US media has a habit of jumping the gun in the search to be first to break a story, without checking all the facts or presenting all the details to make a news story accurate. They media can destroy a persons entire life in a few minutes with a top story, or in this case reduce a premium car maker to apologize for every car they have ever made that has any small issue. Do you think that any of the supposed top news networks will mention that in the same report from "Consumer Morons" they said that the # 1 sedan in the world is the Lexus GS460 !! That's correct, the same report includes a list of the top 10 cars for 2010, and the #1 car is the GS460. I watched 3 different news networks tonight, and not one mentions the list, or the GS460. There is no fair reporting here- couldn't they throw Toyota a bone? After all the bad publicity they have gotten. My family has 3-4 cars at any given time, and we've had several Toyotas over the years. In almost every case, they were more reliable, and were much less expensive to drive than other cars we have owned, American or Japanese. When is someone going to hold the media responsible for their irresponsibility? And make them accountable?

Now after watching the video, i think GX460 performed that turn very normally. Only people who have no experience of full size/tall SUVs especially the body on frame ones like Land crusier, Patrol, Mitsubishi Pajero...etc will come anywhere near that in real life.
Stupid magazine.

JUGNU- I would venture that most SUV's are subject to the same issue that the GX460 experienced. It is the nature of the beast.

I hate the GX, but seriously.. who would want to drive that fast around a corner in a truck-based SUV? It was not built for that.. it was built for offroaders who want a bit of luxury ( the GX ).

Wow, seriously? Consumer reports is right, the stability control isn't working. The breaks should be selectively applied so the vehicle can't spin sideways at medium speeds.

All this scrutiny is because of Toyota cutting corners. Everything Toyota does not will be examined with a microscope. I guess Toyota will think twice before they decide to become the world largest automotive company. Or at least do it without using the cheapest parts available.

I really don't know what hapens with people , the problem is true that's all they have to work and improve quality because is to low ,the electronic issues is evident too. You also can try a test drive with confident with and BMW X5 or Mercedes ML or even Porsche Cayenne without problem for sure. Open your eyes they have to fix all of this issues and that's all , this is not conspiracy this is a real matter. What happens with the 51 peoples dead from pedal issues is real.. Hello.. open your eyes. You also have the right to select the brand you want to drive. Just select the one that offer the best for you.
They save a lot of money with a cheap products and parts until one of yours customer noted or feel it or theirs is a problem like this one. This happen to Toyota now and also Honda with air bag issues, is time to pay for the damages that was cause to customer and people dead. If they destroy their prestige for poor quality nobody is responsible for this just them. This the price they have to pay now.
People or customer deserve the best because they expect the best from you too. They also have to pay for the poeple died so I am ok with the goverment punishment too.
Customer need respect.

Toyota also have issues in Europe and Asia their is a conspiracy in all of this countries too ..... please Hello... opens your eyes.
Just make cars with the proper quality and design and stop saving money with cheap crap components and parts.
For all of this year they lives with the fame of the their name today this fame is also destroy by them, so now you have to make cars properly again if you want to regain your "fame" again.

frankly speaking...based on how Lexus and Toyota drivers drive all products for both brands should be put on the stop sell list for safety concerns.

Look, the media loves a winner and a loser, and when its the same person or company, all the better.
They loved to build up the image of Tiger Woods to their own benefit - it sold. And later they were more than happy to make money dragging him through the mud. Up or down, its all about selling the story.
Same for Toyota.
Lesson: Live by the media; die by the media.

Jap cars always seem to cut corners when it comes to safety.
Honda cars are notorious for brakes that are "just good enough".
Toyota cars have brakes that are just don't work, period.
Now Lexus (4-Runner with wood trim) can't even turn without falling on its side.
Typical Japanese kill machines.
