Ford planning to use diesel technology on its next-gen EcoBoost engines
As you may know already we told you earlier today that Ford will expand its fuel-saving technology to three additional engines but the American manufacturer confirmed further details.

It appears that it will borrow more diesel engine technology to develop the second generation of the EcoBoost engine and the results will be the improved power and better fuel economy compared with the first-generation engines.

This technology is about what 10 to 15 years old now?

Ford isn't marketing it as "new" technology, they are marketing it as smart technology.

That would be like saying Audi is marketing LED's as "new" technology, where the have always been around.

Yes its true this is marketing, but at least Ford is finally modernizing its domestic lineup and not continuing to assume the customers dont understand any of this. Why GM, Ford and Chrysler kept reusing ancient engine bloks and technology for so long is beyond me. While the Corvette, for example pumps out a lot of performance, it nevertheless has at its core a relic from another time.

I can't wait until we see how efficient the new engine is, lets hope it is light too.

Interesting how the article didn't say what these "diesel" technologies are. I'm a fan of diesels and I'm thinking what do diesels currently have that gasolines don't. I would say that their next move should be variable geometry turbos. This is a difficult move (so far only Porsche has it in a gasoline car) because of the high temperatures of the gasoline's exhaust and how that affects the electric motor that activates the turbo's vanes. While writing this I was simultaneously doing some research and it seems they will be offering cooled EGT (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) first.
