What Are The Most UNDERRATED Cars?
001 and I were talking the other day and we happened to stumble upon an intriguing topic that has not really been touched upon on AutoSpies.
Underrated cars.
Say what you will, there are just some cars that do not seem to get enough street cred. Why? We'll never know.
For 001's picks, he dug out some cars from the past with the Land Rover Defender and the Audi C5 RS6
On the other hand, I stuck to the present with the 2010 Volkswagen Golf TDI.
What say you?

Subaru Legacy....comes with subaru's phenominal AWD system(IMO THE BEST AWD IN THE INDUSTRY) the power may need to be bumped up a notch but for the price and MPG I think you get your money's worth whether you get the 2.5 or the 3.6

Speaking of Audis, the D2 S8 and the B6 S4 come to mind. I would also throw the BMW Z8 out there as well- it's a great car but many bimmerphiles don't like/appreciate it. Their loss.
I'm also thinking the V8 C55 and first gen E55. And yes the Cayman is in there too......

Porsche 911 Targa.
Always has problems selling for them but it is my favorite.
I'm looking for a used 2009 Targa 4S PDK right now...

the targa is certainly the best looking of the 911s but its added weight and slower 0-60 times topped with its huge price premium over the 4 and 4s makes it a car that should isnt underrated and shows why it doesnt sell well. Beautiful car or not, they should make one like the original with a removable roof panel and save the weight.

Presently, I'd also vote for the Cobalt SS. And from the past, my vote goes to the Infiniti G20. Small at heart with an inline four putting out 140 hp if I remember. But an amazing ride that I couldn't upset the handling anyhow I tried!

I'm with you on the G20. I had a '94.
Also, the forgotten and unnoticed Q45 was underrated.

You are just proving my point. That is the general perception that it was a Sentra Suited up. It must have different suspension and anti-roll bars. No Sentra that I drove handled like that! I scared senseless so many friends (not to mention myself) with that car!

again lavic its not a sentra its a car called the Nissan Primera they are identical cars the primera was the car in between the sentra and maxima in theory like the toyota avensis which slotted between the corolla and camry

inline6 - "dude" - you're wrong, it's not a sentra at all. Different engine, suspension, interior/exterior design. bmwdvr is correct.
Yes it was a re-badged Nissan, a Nissan Primera, not sold in the USA. Check your facts.

In 1995 my sister had a Infiniti QX35 that was getting serviced. Dealer loan car was G20. It was a joke. The car looked like a Sentra and smelled like one. Nissan plastics on hot LA day. It was a Sentra.

The Boxster is one of the most underrated cars. I think mainly because of its "poorman's porsche" image. It actually has a good balance. It does sacrifice it's handling with non-satisfactory straight line performance though. Quality build and very rigid build but again it's how we make of them.

The Boxster is further underrated compared with the Cayman, which many people, even enthusiasts, don't realize is literally the same car.
Actually these cars aren't underrated in the magazines, but by the public simply because curvy cars aren't in style right now.

the cayman has 100% more structural rigidity and more room to put things, plus a slightly more aggressive engine/suspension calibration, a little less weight and MUCH better looks. Sorry the Boxster is still a Porsche with panties.

Points taken. The new Boxster Spyder sports the same motor as the Cayman S now and it sounds great. It looks much better than any standard Boxster though. Again, the name has been tainted with bad public opinion. Anyone who knows history knows Porsche has had small models before so a Boxster isn't around just for the so called "poor man". It is by no means a cheap car, far from a KIA but also far from a Veyron.

I think the Lexus LX470 was Very underrated compared to the early 2000's GM products as well as the C5 Corvette Z06 and the Current 600+ hp Dodge Viper. In mortal category the Pontiac G8 was underrated as well as the 400hp Pontiac GTO.

couldnt agree more. I, fortunately, have had the luxury of owning some nice vehicles, but nothing compares to my 1997 Jeep Wrangler I had. I put a lift kit on it, beat it up every weekend at Badlands when I was at Purdue and put 160,000 miles on it with never a problem. It was the most fun vehicle I have ever owned. I really love my 335, but the memories with the wrangler will last forever. I still dream of rebuilding a CJ-7 again, sold that to pay off student loan debt. I just want to have a child for the sole purpose of building a jeep with them for their 16th birthday, its that special of a vehicle.
