GX460 Handling Issues Confirmed, But Why Are All Of These Issues JUST NOW Surfacing?
Toyota Motor Corp. said Friday that its engineers had confirmed a flaw in a Lexus SUV model that Consumer Reports had warned consumers not to buy because of a rollover threat.

The automaker said it was looking for a fix but did not say whether it planned to issue a formal recall for the 2010 model year Lexus GX 460. It has stopped selling the SUV and has temporarily idled the vehicle's Japanese production line.

Federal regulations give an automaker five days, after finding that one of its vehicles is not in compliance with safety standards or has a defect, to make a report to the U.S. Transportation Department. A spokeswoman for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the agency was aware of Toyota's test results and was waiting for the automaker's formal report

Still at it huh, Agent009? The article is fine, thanks for sharing... but the conspiracy titled post?? Agent009, Toyota is a big boy, they will figure this thing out on there own. This came out Just Now... because CR which we all dislike, tested the vehicle Just Recently!!

Come on Agent009... give us something else to chew on... Done talking/reading about the GX460.

The point is that issues this easily detected should have never made it into production. It seems that if the dynamics were "properly" tested over a variety of surfaces then most likely this could have been caught before relieved in such an embarrassing manner.

My bigger question might also be placed on CR. Just how many SUV's exhibit the type of issue to some degree? Did previous Lexus SUV (or any brand) undergo this type of issue before?

Wasn't it you Agent009, that told us that the Mitsubishi Montero had failed this test in the past with CR? Listen... Even if CR had it out for Toyota... Toyota, could fight them back in Court. Since this doesn't seem to be the case however, Toyota will resume sales when this whole thing is sorted out.

By the way, auto manufacturers have sold subpar vehicles to the public for years, some with great risk to consumer safety but did so anyway; not because they meant to cause harm but rather because they themselves didn't know. When money is tight... you might not go all the way out in overly testing a vehicle before it goes on sale. I suspect Toyota was saving a buck and thought not much of it since the new vehicle is based on the previous model. They might have asked themselves "how different can the performance be??"

This is industrial complacency at its best and no Company, no matter how great, has been Immune to this.

back in the days when Ford learned that their 5.0 Mustang would loose its tires when driving at excess speeds, their fix was to limit the car speed to 85mph. while making the car pointless, it saved many lives. Lexus could do the same with the GX but would have to limit its speed to around 10mph; at this speed it's very hard to flip a car. Therefore, since they will not use my mentioned "fix", I don't see their fix to be inexpensive. In fact, it might cost them a lot less to not sell the car period, and start from scratch (at least the suspension). Great job Toyota, always moving forward!

"Toyota Motor Corp.said Friday that its engineers had confirmed a flaw in a Lexus SUV model that Consumer Reports had warned consumers not to buy because of a rollover threat."

All of the Toyota apologists should stop blaming a US government conspiracy for the low quality of Toyota products.

Even President Akio Toyoda and the previous president, Katsuaki Watanabe admit that toytex quality is poor.

The most important part here is that they lie for years to Toyota customers and all blind still believe on them. LIERS.....
Why they have to test theirs vehicles now and specially this SUV. We supposed all your cars are already tested because you have a TOYOTA name right ????? LIERS......
If C Reports don't say anything about this SUV they still selling this dangerous car to interesting customers.
They need a DEEP INVESTIGATION to know the real true about wich cars is good to sale and wich model not.
I am sure with the Charge of 16 millions and more they going to check theirs products more carefully. If they don't fix that stop selling crap to USA customers.

I am not a toyota fan, but this is not a danger to anyone! CR is all BS, why didn''t they report the engine sludge problems? That was major $$ to the consumer. If anyone can flip this vehicle you shouldn't be driving.

Was that the ad with the tagline "Unlike your boyfriend this car goes to work every morning" or was that another incident?

The only flaw I see here is with drivers. How about don't go that fast in an SUV.

I agree but there may be times when drastic measures are required. Say a trailer is in front of you on the highway and it cuts a tire and you now have 200 lbs of rubber and steel coming straight at you when you are doing 80 mph on the highway. Well you need to be able to make a sudden turn without the thing tipping over, stability control systems are in place to aid the driver in situations just like that.

That's a good point, but what Whelen et al are saying is to NOT have unexpected incidents in the first place. It is real simple; just don't allow real life to occur around you, stay in your fantasy world where toylex is perfect and everyone else is at fault.

voila! fixed!

I fail to the safety issue here, it is defiantly true that it is not working properly, but in the high speed test it didn't roll at all, so it is all hype, although I would stick to Acura, lol
