STUD OR DUD? Agent00R Takes The All New E-Class Cabrio Out For A Spin
I just wanted to let you all know that Agent00R is under cover in Tennessee taking the all new E-Class Cabrio through its paces, and just posted some new shots to our gallery.
The 2011 E-Class
Cabriolet is available in E350 and E550 forms, with a 268-hp 3.5-liter V-6 or a 382-hp, 5.5-liter V-8, respectively.
Perhaps on of the most interesting design choices it that the all new midsized cabrio sports a traditional insulated soft top vs. the more contemporary hard top found on rival class mates. Even with the folding top retracted the cabrio still appears to have quite a bit of useable trunk space making those short road trips even better with the top down.
Check out the shots below and then move over to the
2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Gallery
and let us know if this one is a STUD or DUD.

I cant speak to the quality of the interior because I have not been inside one, but from the pictures the design is a bit to boring and boxy. While the materials may be soft the touch, they look like hard plastic in pictures.

I really like the car inside and out , but I would like another dash design maybe more agressive, but is great and very ellegant.

The Coupe and Cabrio look better than the sedan, but definitely a stud in its market segment!

I'm leaning towards stud. In these pictures, the convertibles look fantastic (especially the silver one with the blue top). I'll reserve final judgement for the convertible for when I see it in person, but I've seen several of the E-Class coupes on the road and I think they look great.
For my money however, I would go with a cab that is more sporting and less cruising (335is convertible comes to mind immediately). This new E-Class model, along with the past CLK's, have always been geared for more relaxed driving. It is a car the wife takes to the club for lunch, not one for tearing up the back roads on a quiet Sunday morning.

I have a CLK 550 Convertible now, had the previous CLK Convertibles (98 320 and an 02 430) and I rather like the new E Convertible too. So far the only issue I have with the new car is how they chose to to arrange the center ac vents in the dash. In the Sedan that piece is flipped right side up and it looks 10 times better than it does in the coupe. Otherwise I really do like the car (especially the dark gray with the black top) and will be considering purchasing one next year when I pay my current one off. Either that or a 911 Convertible.

TauronB2G said "I got deboosted for liking a Benz... I see the fanboys have united!" -- I got deboosted for *not* liking MB's current style direction.
I guess it just adds up to someone with a finger on the mouse-button who says "F* You! You don't think like I do!"

I miss the round headlights and distinct styling cues that once upon a time instantly said Mercedes. Today's MBs look like they came from www.GenericCar.com, and lack the stateliness and panache of previous generations.

Interior is "classy", but lacks character; it is professional, formal but sterile and cold. I like the interior of the audi, maserati and ferrari, warmer, more intimate feeling.

Overall nice, the rear end of coupe/cabrio looks lot better than Sedan's.
But wouldn't pick it over BMW, Audi and Infiniti rivals.

soft cloth, stud! I do not understand why people cant comprehend a soft top is great! technology has advanced people! Soft tops are quiet and sealed properly. the ebst part is you still have a trunk!
There is only 1 good looking hard top convertible in the market and that is the ferrari california. every other convertible looks like frankenstein, all pieced together and not done very well.

Can I ask a potentially dumb but serious question? How come there are no more 4-door convertibles? Is it demand, safety, etc.? It just seems that a car the size of the E-class would be better suited for 4-door convertible, just as the Chrysler 300C should have come in convertible glory.

Whelan, funny you mentioned a 300 Convertible. I saw one the other day. There was an old bald guy with a ponytail and a woman that was far too young for him driving it. It was abviously a very custom job but it really didn't look that good. They had to leave the B pillar in so it kinda looked like a long VW rabbit. Especially with the rims and Vogues on it. It also probably handled like crap and was very heavy.

DUD - The car looks dated by some 10 years, yet it just came out.

It's because we've seen these styling cues. The wrap-around tail lights look very "Toyota," while the swoopy headlights have been on Asian cars for well over a decade.

Stud. I find it more attractive than the coupe. The cloth roof adds a touch of tradition and classiness to the design.

I really like the interior though. I'm glad MB isn't listening to the car magazines always complaining about "too much clutter". BMW listened to them with the E60 (5-series) and that interior ended up being a cold, stark, bland, spartan interior. The inside of the early E60s resembled the inside of a coffin.

Definitely a stud and much better than the cheap looking CLK. I've seen it on the road in Dubai. Also, I wouldn't go with pics alone because we just saw the A5 convertible on the road and it looks much worse than than in pics.
The problem is that even though they got the exterior design right, the E-class interior is uninspiring.
And I agree that it might end up being a chick's car rather than the more unisex 3-series.

It's ok, but would go with G37 or 3 series.
