Top Gear America To Become A Reality On The History Channel

Top Gear America To Become A Reality On The History Channel
Yes, it’s true. The History channel and BBC Worldwide announced today that work has begun on an American version of TopGear, with US presenters fronting the new show.

The first series of ten episodes will air on History next fall (an American-only season not dissimilar to ‘autumn’, we believe), though exact dates are yet to be finalised. It will be hosted by Tanner Foust, Adam Ferrara and Rutledge Wood.

Tanner Foust’s name should be familiar to TopGear faithful. He’s a renowned stunt driver (The Bourne Ultimatum, no less) and X-Games rally gold medallist who’s also done the business at Pikes Peak and in international ice racing championships. Not only that, he beat Jenson Button around Wembley Stadium during 2008’s Race of Champions. Rumours he learned everything he knows from Captain Slow remain unconfirmed.

Should be a good show if they don't bow down to advertising dollars from the car manufacturers.

Top Gear is my favorite TV show and is by far the best show on television (if only BBC America wouldn't have six month plus delays on airing the seasons, but beggars can't be choosers I guess).

However, I have little hope for the American version. It seems that Americans butcher nearly every television show and movie that comes from the UK.

I wish they would air Fifth gear and the different versions of Top Gear at different seasons of the year. New car shows is always better than no car shows for me.

Finally automotive journalists that tell it the way they think, I don't always agree with all they think but I like them.

The show will be shut down. Once GM execs (or any of the big 3) see how crappy thier cars compare, they will lobby to have the show cancelled. There isn't any way in hell that a show like this would boost GM sales.

Yeah because look at how much Top Gear BBC hated the SRT8 Challenger, CTS-V, and Corvette ZR1. Oh wait they loved them.

SRT8 Challenger, CTS-V, and Corvette ZR1? Yeah those sound like cars that the Average American would purchase. What about cars like the Ford Fusion And Chevy Malibu? You think Top-gear would love them?

Lol, I think all the companies will be lobbying to control the direction of the show, they loved the Corvette, how could you not.Isn't it awful how corrupt the corporate world is$$

LexSucks,

Well TG likes the Mondeo and Vectra so yeah they probably will. I hope they wouldn't like the Avenger. Seriously they will compare them to the same cars in the available market (US market). I have a feeling Toyota fans won't be to happy with the upcoming Camry reviews.

This has little hope. There is a reason Top Gear is popular already in America............because it is British.

Even Jay Leno turned down the project....“I don’t think you could be quite as freewheeling with your opinions as you can on the BBC, because sponsors pay for the programs,” he wrote in The Times. “If Kia was our sponsor this week, we’d have to say the car was fantastic.”

But who knows. Maybe Leno is wrong and the gut instincts of most Americans are as well. Perhaps we are ready for a fattened up, watered down and gentrified Top Gear….. dumbed down just for stupid Americans. The least we can hope for is that the British version of Top Gear is not pulled while they run this little experiment on us.

The Facts speaks for themselves.

Because the BBC is payed for by the UK Population instead of specific Corporations, the Presenters are able to Speak Honestly about whatever products they are Reviewing.

Same cannot be said for the USA Shows and I have a lot of Respect for Jay Leno being Honest enough to know that he would be prevented from doing unbiased reviews.

As long as Clarkson is not the host. Sorry to most but I cannot stand the English prick.

Unfortunately I fear the show will suck. I agree that the sponsors will end up ruling the show and we can't have that. I hope they have some of the goofy trials and tricks that they do on the BBC. The US version will have to have something new, inventive and exciting to differentiate it from the BBC version. I also hope for some type of diversity.

It will be hard, if not impossible, to recreate the show here. You can't simply cast Americans in the same roles because you have to BE British to create British humor.

Thus, the key to a US show is to make it uniquely American and exaggerate the whacky traits of American drivers through American humor.

The formula is easy, the execution may be near impossible.

Whether you like him or hate him, Clarkson is that franchise - US version will suck because it won't have Clarkson and it will be sanitized

I would hope that it was run like the BBC version, otherwise it would be all scripted lies to appease the sponsors, If this was the case I wouldn't waste my time watching them attempt to fill my head with lies.

car companies cannot complain about the show bashing their car because the manufacturer should have built a better vehicle! They need to point the fingers at themselves and not at a TV show disliking their product.

This show will fail.
