Toyota's Financial And Prestige Ratings Take A Hit Below The Belt After Rocky 2009

Toyota's Financial And Prestige Ratings Take A Hit Below The Belt After Rocky 2009
Moody's, the international ratings agency, downgraded Toyota and its subsidiaries by one notch Thursday over the automaker's capacity to repay debt.

The prior rating was Aa1; it is now Aa2.

The rating, while still relatively strong, shows the ratings agency's concern over the worldwide Toyota recalls.

Toyota also saw its ratings plummet in the annual Forbes Magazine list of the world's leading companies. Last year, Toyota was ranked number 3.

This year, it is number 360.

Prestige and Toyota? 2 words that should never be in the same sentence together unless, That sentence is saying that Toyota doesn't have any Prestige. Toyota is the new GM. Take a look at thier model lineup. reminds me of Chevy's model lineup of the 90's minus the Corvette.

Well they are listed as one of the most innovative...

Can you name some innovations that they've made recently? My buddy said the same thing yet couldn't name a single Toyota innovation

I think Toyota is good at taking much deeper look into a market segment and determining what mix of exterior & interior characteristics will need to be included in order to be accepted by a broad range of consumers. All of their vehicles (incl Lexus) seem to have been executed on that principle alone. Toyota seems to grab many of the best ideas from the global industry and varies their usage to meet a type of balance in design.

And there isn't much heritage to support the recent jump in "prestige", every little aspect of the brand matters.

LexSucks- Their focus appears to primarily be on the assembly line technology to make cars cheap and faster and more profitable. That can lead to excellent and consistent quality.

However it doesn't mean the car is safer, handles better, gets better mileage, or generally performs better. It just means it excels at a low manufacturing cost vs overall quality level.

Agent009,

That doesn't seem like innovation. That's more like In-house Toyota Manufacturing processes. If other makes decided to follow Toyota's lead and do the same thing (and toyota's way is actually better), then it will be innovation. But for now it's just a method of manufacturing.

Innovations should be able to be qauntified. I dont see that here. I know that you weren't the person who said that Toyota is one of the most innovative companies. Whoever did say that? Is talking out of thier Rear-end.

Actually, quite a few other automakers have met and consulted with Toyota in the past regarding manufacturing processes. Namely, Ford and GM have been granted access to Toyota facilities to see how they can improve their own facilities. Because Toyota had some truly innovative assembly processes, they made changes to their own assembly lines to match those innovations.

Sharing manufacturing processes is secretive and is widely practiced in the auto industry. There's nothing wrong with using ideas to improve efficiency & safety in manufacturing.

What? The Camry is TOTALLY prestigious. Where else can you get puke yellow wood trim!

Lexus offers red wood trim (aka. menstrual wood trim). No other car company in the world offers that PRESTIGE!

Crazy Japs.

Like what you are trying to do with me on the other thread :) You know the thread where you equated comparing two similarly sized 4-door sedans to being the same as comparing a small 2-door convertible with a truck?

And I'm still waiting for the "Toyota Innovations". I bet he's looking hard but coming up with nothing.

Toyota is already coming back and they didn't need to be taken over by the Socialist Obama.
