China Market Outpaces US in Both Production and Consumption Of Motor Vehicles

With more than four times the population of the United States, China was bound to become the world's biggest car market.

But even the experts were stunned by how fast China surged to the top, and auto executives are scrambling to bring their plans in line with the reality of this unexpected boom.

As the Chinese capital Beijing prepares to host the nation's premier auto show beginning today, China is not only the world's biggest car market, but also the biggest producer of vehicles worldwide.

Correct...but, Boy!...Lookout! Here they come! They're in their infancy and all the benefits of a mature market will eventually follow. Don't ignore them. The Japanese were a joke in the late 50's. The Koreans were a joke in the 80's. Both of them learned their lessons and developed their product and now they control a huge share of the markets worldwide. It's happening again, right before our eyes, the automotive market is shifting radically and history is being made.

Not to mention a HUGE portion of their population lives in poverty and in the rural areas. They are still in an industrialized state and economy so it's only natural. But who the hell would want to sit through their traffic.

There cars are very poor quality now, has anyone seen the crash test results of Cherry cars? It is very scary, something that would keep me far away from them,Maybe they will be a force to be reckoned with in 30 years? Maybe with Communism they will allow more efficient cars? Although they are just as corrupt or more corrupt than America.

What's even more impressive is that the Chinese hate credit, debt, and interest rates. So 85% of new car purchases in China are done with cash.

Excellent insight DinamoR - So the mkt "potential" of China is even larger. Like it or not, the Chinese taste will influence car companies and their car lineup which ultimately affect our market to some extent. E.G. car companies will surely try to localise some of the components for cars to be sold in China (in the interest of financial and political gains) and why not increase the volume of those Chinese-made components and put them into cars destined for N.A. or European markets (in the interest of financial benefits). The impact will be in some form of quality or job loss.

Start teaching your kids Mandarin, folks - in 15 years China will be a BEAST and will surpass Korea/Japan as the largest influence in Asia simply due to the power of their consumerism. Ignore China at your own risk, but learn to speak Mandarin and a whole new world of jobs opens up.

Hate to say it, but this is the direction it's going and nothing is going to change that. India is a close second but lacks the focus and coherency of China's national policy (it helps to be totalitarian).

China has the largest amount of people that can speak English in the world, more than north America, so no need to learn Mandarin.
