Beijing Preview: 2011 Maybach 52S and 62S
As parent company Daimler has yet to sign off on development of all-new models, this could be the last ever Maybach. For the facelifted Maybach range, power was increased on the top Maybach 57S and 62S models.

This gave the 12-cylinder engine an extra 18bhp to 457bhp. Average fuel economy is seen to improve from 17.22mpg to 17.88mpg and CO2 emissions have decreased from 390g/km to 368g/km. A 542bhp motor still powers the standard 57 and 62 models. The average fuel economy dropped from 18.83mpg to 17.77mpg and CO2 emissions have fallen from 350g/km to 383g/km.

For a long-term plan, I don't think Daimler should wind down the Maybach brand. Instead, they should take the brand out of the market for a few years, revisit it in 4-5 years, and develop a 2-3 vehicle lineup that includes all new exteriors that look nothing like a Benz S-class.

They should consider making the 3rd vehicle in the Mayback lineup a mid-size/large SUV based on the GL-class, but with a more fluid-like design.

Why would they bother doing this ? I don't see any valid business case.

Who would buy this POS instead of an S63 or better yet an S65...?

It`s not a POS. Maybach is another step above the S-class. If you`ve ever sat inside one you will know.

It actually looks pretty nice. Somehow that new grille design is more reminiscent of the original Maybachs of the 1920s and 1930s.

I could see them keeping Mayback in business, but revamping the current line to look less like the S Class and much more distinct. Also I would love to see a production Excelero Coupe.

Hey Mercedes, 1999 called. They want their design back. But seriously, like I said before, this car's design is seriously dated and in dire need of a redesign. I know a car of this caliber takes about 8-10 years in between redesigns, but this one was obviously a mistake. Maybach (Mercedes Benz) should either correct it or delete it completely. I don't believe new editions are going to save sales. This only works for successful designs, like Bentley's recent design language (Continental GT / Flying Spur, etc...).

Still no chance against the majestic Rolls Royce.

This thing looks so generic it almost looks like a cheap knockoff of the S classwith that grill. The Rolls Royce has more brand cache and way more presence not to mention isnt based on a car that has been around for almost 10 years this thing is dated if they arent going to invest in redoing this car they should kill the brand

Guys, China and Russia are the future of Maybach. There is enough mega wealth combined with total "I want the world to know I am better than everyone around me" attitude to help this marque survive.
