RUMOR: BMW Has GRAN Plans For The Upcoming 6-Series
Although some would say that a forum member's street cred is essentially worthless, you would be flawed to believe so when it comes to Bimmerpost's Scott26.

Having been a guiding light behind the M1/Tii/iS/whateverthehellthey'regoingtocallit 1-Series, he has provided plenty of valuable insight into BMW's product planning.

Now it's time for some Gran Coupe information, as it made headlines today.

Are you buying it?

Scott26 from Bimmerpost reports:

The BMW Gran Coupe has been approved for production, the frameless windows will remain but the car still maintains a B-Pillar for Dynamic finesse.

The BMW Gran Coupe will be marketed as the... BMW 6er Gran Coupe.
Gran Coupe brings a new segment to BMW's portfolio and will spread to include other BMW models in the Future, just like Gran Turismo will.

This will bring a portfolio of three variants to the 6er , Coupe , Gran Coupe and Cabrio.

A Shooting Brake model to accompany the Gran Coupe has been designed and built for design and market evaluation.

The BMW Concept Gran Coupe will make it's European public debut later this year at the Paris Auto Show incidentally alongside another BMW Concept Car that will debut @ Paris.

The visual details of the front and rear of the Gran Coupe will be carried over to the new 6er Coupe...

Isn't there already a post on this?

No, that was a STUD or DUD with BMW's press release when news first hit the web.

This is what Scott26 is telling Bimmerpost regarding the Gran Coupe actually becoming part of the 6-Series line up.

I also like it because it doesnt look like a stolen CLS design "COUGH" "COUGH" VW Passat CC "COUGH"....the design looks very orignal and sleek. THey really must of had this car under wraps because this is the first time i am hearing of this.

"Shooting Brake" ?

That name sounds so lame. The only people who thinks that the name "Shooting Brake" sounds cool are 60+ year old british guys. Any one else says "what"?

LexSucks: I agree...they do not need to Follow MB with Shooting Break, So they want to try Shooting Brake which means same thing in design....boring.

It's the best looking Bimmer in a long time because they took the front bumper, silhouette, and rear valance design from the Audi S5/RS5. So yeah, it looks good.

*Let me grab my popcorn so I can sit back and laugh as the BMW die hards curse and insult in denial*

That's the best you got? At least make a case for your own point instead of hurling insults. I'd post pics of my case in point but we can't do that on here. You've got google just like I do. Look at the pics yourself

Bentdeez, I have made my case using the CS concept. Now show us what you got!

@e34: I do see your point because there are some similarities there.

But wouldn't you say this new bmw bumper is more similar to the A5 range than any of the audi bumpers to the f430? Seems like more of a direct rip to me, especially since they are more directly in competition for the target audience. Audi's not looking to lure away a bunch of ferrari buyers with their sedans or anything (unless some would make a case for the v10 R8 in the supercar range, but there's obviously no visual comparison there either).

Bentdeez, you may want to look at the BMW CS concept and then tell me who copied who. The CS concept came out before the A5/S5.

Today, I stopped at the local BMW dealer today because I wanted to look at 3 series or 2011 5 Series (release info) which would replace my existing 6 year old BMW (I also have an Audi A4 which I like too). However, if their "Grand Plan" for this 6 series includes getting "nickel and dime to death", then I may be very disappointed. I looked at a 3 series on the lot. The MSRP for the 335i was $40,600. But once all the OPTIONS were added on (most of them you would probably want to make it your own), the car listed for well over $55,700 without tax, tags and dealer fees. Great cars, but I wish they would make some the "options" standard (fold down rear seat, metallic paint, XM radio, etc)
