STUD or DUD: Is Citroen's Take On The Large Sedan Besting The 7, S, LS, A8, XJ, Panamera?
If there is one culture that oozes style, it is the French.

For years, the French have been at the forefront of the hippest design and trends, yet we never get to appreciate them in the automotive world because we are essentially getting gypped in the States.

Now, Citroen has put out the Metropolis. A hybrid, all-wheel drive and 450-horsepower behemoth. What is there not to like?

We want to know what you think, though. Is this car killing it in terms of design?

Should Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche take lessons from these guys?

Let us know in the comments below...

Carscoop reports:

These are the first 'real life' pictures of Citroën's latest concept car, the Metropolis, that gives certain German makers (see Porsche and BMW) a lesson or two on how to design an eye-candy luxury sports saloon.

The styling of the 5.3m long and 2m wide but only 1.4m high Metropolis has echoes of the French automaker's well received GT supercar concept of 2008. This one was developed by Citröen's Shanghai-based design team.

Under the subtle "Pearl Silk" colored bodywork there's a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that utilizes "an optimized" 2.0-liter V6 petrol engine, an electric motor and a 7-speed, dual-clutch electronic gearbox...

I love the look but it would suit a 4 door coupe segment more. This segment is dominated by world reknowned S-Class, and well respected 7'er, A8, LS, and XJ. Panamera isn't so much in this class but it's one heck of a car.

Beautiful lines. Citroen meets Audi snout a bit blunt, but stunning car. But still, a concept.

Front bumper has lot of styling cues from Citroen GT Concept. Nice quite unique design.

The French have never wanted for engineering ,style,or beauty. It will be interesting to see if the new Metrtopolis will prove as reliblbe and durable as its German and Japanse competitors.

FABULOUS! I have been a loyal S-Class customer since 1982. But, I'd buy this beauty, in a snap, and not look back. Whoa!

Brilliant! In a perfect world, Citroen and A;fa Romeo would be the sole companies in charge of automotive design, not engineering or marketing, but D-E-S-I-G-N!

Citroen and Alfa Romeo... I mean this concept is at least 5-7 years ahead of anything in the market today. And knowing Citroen, the production version won't be too far off the concept. Citroen = futuristic, unique design beauty. Alfa Romeo = Blending yesterday's beauty with today's technology, brilliantly.

You're spot on OBie - With regards to "design", no company has beaten Citroen and Alfa Romeo. It's not in the quite same league as those two but I would say Maserati has a good line up over the years as well (Birdcage, Sebring, SM (jointly with Citroen), Bora and Merak, Khamsin, 80s Quattroporte, even the Biturbo, current Quattroporte and Grand Turismo. PS I like your apt description of the characteristics of Citroen and Alfa Romeo ("...Citroen = futuristic, unique design beauty. Alfa Romeo = Blending yesterday's beauty with today's technology...").

Thanks nguyenvuminh. Remember Maserati and Alfa Romeo share a couple of things (parent company Fiat, Pininfarina, racing history / period, etc...), so comparing their design is quite accurate. Maserati is truly a proud owner of many beauties throughout the years.
