A Booth Babe Details Why You'd Rather Talk To Her Over An Engineer
The Truth About Cars reports:

Thank you so much for the warm welcome last week! I appreciate all your comments and encouragement and look forward to sharing more about auto show life with you.

A comment on my last column caught my eye. The gist of it was why bother with “booth babes” or professional presenters at all? Why not just have sales people or the actual engineers at the shows? It is a question that has been asked of me multiple times in different forums, so I’d like to address it in greater detail here.

The answer is multi-faceted and has to do with the psychology of marketing, practicality and the proper delivery of a message.

Contrary to the loud insistence of many car dudes on other websites, the product specialists you see at consumer auto shows are not there to be window dressing...

I've always wondered why people bother to write about stuff like this... and why people pay them.

Voyeurism, my good man.

People are always intrigued about EVERYTHING.

"@Badgewhore: Any auto show without hot chicks is DOOM......unless it's an all gay motorshow."

Hmm... Nah. I disagree. Im a gay guy and I find women VERY attractive but they dont make or break an autoshow. They can sit there and look sexy by a sexy car all day but they are NOT who I want to get my info from. It has nothing to do if you like seeing them or not. They are a plus but if your a true motorhead, they wont matter. The turn-on at a carshow is the cars. On a side note, I would NOT want to attend a carshow with shirtless guys next to the car. Thats too gay! lol

Is there a difference in the response between a salesman or a booth babe? They have one thing in common, they know little to nothing about the vehicle for sale, although there are some exceptions, I appreciate beautiful women, but I would rather have an engineer to talk to and a booth babe to stand there looking good, lol

Agreed.

I sometimes think it would be a good idea to have both a Booth Babe and maybe a younger product engineer at the displays. The Booth Babe would pull the public in (with their inherent attractiveness) and the engineer could stand back & offer technical explanations for the vehicle selling points & what not.

Why would you ask a Booth Babe a technical question anyway? Doesn't make sense to waste your own time like that. And most people are asking the models questions just to get close and have some sort of conversation...give it up...move on.

Bullshit. Why do you never see overweight, less than attractive people doing these jobs?

no i would not rather talk to a booth babe over an engineer. the engineer has all the technical details and professional opinions about the product, the booth babe just has her mouth....i can find a "mouth" at any local club lol
