GT-R Teams Threaten To Boycott GT1 Racing After Weight Penalties
The two Nissan teams competing in the new FIA GT1 World Championship have threatened to boycott the next round and to launch a protest unless the weight penalty heaped on the GT-R ahead of the Abu Dhabi series opener is removed, this week's AUTOSPORT magazine reveals.

The Swiss Racing Team run by Othmar Welti insisted that it would not race again with the 30kg penalty that rendered the Nissan GT-R uncompetitive in last weekend's Abu Dhabi event.

The British Sumo Power squad explaining that it was considering a protest against the penalty, which was imposed under the series 'Balance of Performance' rules.

Sounds familiar - All Wheel Drive enters a series and after it starts dominating, it is handed ever increasing ballast weight and then eventually gets outlawed.

Then the RWD fan bois say it wasn't competitive anyway... go figure.

lol wow let it go, you find a way to work that same statement in every post, whether it makes sense or not I think the point is to have all the cars on a level playing field instead of having several variables the weight difference seems to be a bit unfair but all wheel drive isnt the same thing as weight in a rear wheel drive dominated race... we got it your an Audi crazed fan thats still upset get over it.

Ridiculous. If this is to level the cars, you might as well just use the same cars. At least put on the weight penalty after 2 or 3 rounds.

Wasn't Godzilla banned from certain motorsports in the past because it was destroying the competition?

The weight penalities are lame.

I agree, but it does keep it from becoming a one brand show.

While I do not agree with the Weight Penalties being awarded in any series, the good teams and cars will pull through and still win despite having to overcome bigger hurdles.

It is a part of racing.

Thing is, the weight penalty is based on 'single' person's assessment. Read the story and see yourself:
