Wow, you put the new Mercedes in 2nd last place!

Surprised you picked it that low!

Figured it would at least get middle of the pack.

Not much of a benz fan, probably not old enough to appreciate them.

no i wont.

your list is incomplete.

why the heck is the Z exempt from your "list" anyway, oo1? cuz it beat the new z4? cuz it can beat the 135i? cuz its an equivalent to the boxster S?

1. BMW 335is: Love the additional power of the twin turbo I6 and the styling tweaks. Since the M3 cab isn't on this list, this is the closest you will get.
2. Porsche Boxster S: Mid-engine, two seat roadster? Yes please.
3. Porsche 911: While the 911 4S Cab would have been at the top of my list, the "regular" 911 cab is just a little too soft.
4. BMW Z4: With the 6MT and twin turbo I6, this would be a fun roadster to toss around.
5. BMW 135i: While the 1-Series is small, coupled with 300hp, it is a mini rocket. And I kind of like the bulldog-like, squat styling.
6. Mercedes E550: While more of a tourer, the new E convertible has presence and style. And I kind of dig that little flap that pops up from the windshield.
7. Ford Mustang 5.0: Despite its ancient live rear axle, the big V8 American muscle car would be fun for a weekend.
8. Corvette: The Vette has become the forgotten sports car in my opinion. But with a 6MT, it is still a great value and a great drive.
9. Audi TTs: Never have been a big fan of the looks, but I like the quattro. However, the little high strung engine isn't my favorite.
10. Infiniti G37: I like the coupe's styling, but the convertible is awkward looking. I was behind one two weeks ago and the trunk lid is way too high (obviously to accomodate the folding roof).
11. Audi A5: While a handsome car, its terrible F/R weight distribution makes it a no go. Plus it is super expensive for a 2.0T.
12. Volvo C70: Nice looking car, but only FWD. And it's boring.
13. Lexus IS350c: Another boring option, despite its high HP output. It is also ugly. And only has an automatic.

For me design comes first and performance second in case of cabriolets. So,

1. Infiniti G37
2. BMW Z4
3. BMW 335i
4. Porsche 911 cabrio

I just got a new convertible, so I actually performed this exercise with real money. Even though I was tempted to make this our third car, I decided that it should be my daily driver, thus I had to incorporate a number of real world criteria (e.g., reliability, practicality, etc.). Here's my list:

1. Infiniti G37: Actually bought this one. Great looks, great stereo system, heated and ventilated seats, reasonably priced for what you get (a lot of useful features - bluetooth, ipod integration, back up camera, etc). Decent trunk with the top up, but essentially useless with the top down. The car is heavy (feels like a G37 coupe with a Sumo wrestler in the back seat), but handles normal driving with aplomb and is quite entertaining.

2. BMW 335i: Most thoughtful convertible design (e.g., room in trunk for a 22" suitcase even with top down), feels solid, drove the best and had a usable backseat. Pricing is obnoxious (nickel and dime for every little option)and prior experience with BMW did not inspire confidence in reliability.

3. BMW Z4: Good looking car. Being a 2 seater - the trunk is almost useless with the top down and there is no back seat to use as a trunk. Again BMW reliability did not inspire confidence

4. Audi A5: Looked great. Turbocharged engine was a bit underwhelming moving so much mass. Preferred a hard top convertible. Relatively pricey for what is included and the dealer was incredibly arrogant.

5. Porsche Boxster : Nice - again as a roadster, it has limited storage. Preferred a hard top convertible. Also it's been around for a while, so it is relatively common in Southern California.

6. BMW E Class Cabriolet : Didn't drive this as it wasn't available a couple of months back. Don't care for the look much

7. Lexus IS 350C : Very nice car in terms of smooth driving and practicality. The rear deck is the highest of the cars I test drove and visibility suffered significantly as a consequence.

8. Porsche 911 : I had a 911 Coupe, which was pretty loud when you got up past 70 mph. I don't think my eardrums could have handled the convertible.

9. Volvo V70

10. Audi TTS

11. BMW 135i

12. Vette

13. Mustang

1. BMW 335i - Most well rounded of the bunch, not as flashy as the Porsche, free maintenance, quick folding top, and middle of the pack as far as price. Great financing and heavy discounts on this model make it a very easy decision. It doesn't hurt that it also looks amazing.

2.

12

13. Volvo C70 - Although it is a pretty decent looking convertible, I don't think for the price it is a great value, or an exciting vehicle. The T5 is a dated engine and is felt in the sluggish drive.

I figured the rest don't matter...

1) BMW Z4 sDrive35is -- it's the closest I'll ever get to owning something as sexy as an Aston Martin without hitting the lottery. If my only choices are the sDrive35i then drop this a few notches, and if it's the base sDrive30i then a few more.
2) BMW 335is Convertible -- since you didn't include the M3 convertible. See above regarding the models.
3) Porsche 911 Convertible -- it's a Porsche 911. Call me a snob but that means something.
4) Porsche Boxster S -- best drivers car of all these models, but the fact they're everywhere drops it a few spots.
5) BMW 135i Convertible -- best value on the list, it's a screaming little car. Caveat: 2011 model only, because I want the dual clutch. If not a 2011 model, then
5) Mercedes E550 Convertible -- looks much better as a coupe than a convertible, and I don't want it without the V8.
6) Audi S5 Convertible -- another on that looks much better as a coupe, and again I don't want it period unless it's the S model. Only reason it's not ahead of the Benz is (gasp) I don't think it's the most beautiful thing on earth the way all the magazines seem to. Does have a nicer interior than the Benz though.
7) Infiniti G37 Convertible -- good bang for the buck, and the best looking car in the class next to the 335.
8) Mustang GT Convertible -- first car was a Mustang 5.0 Convertible, and this new one makes me nostalgic.
9) Audi TT-S -- not really a huge fan of this car because in lesser form it's a total chick car, but something has to go here.
10) Corvette Convertible -- "hillbilly/guido midlife crisis car". In quotes because it's a shame it has that image, it's a better car than it's given credit for.
11) Lexus IS350c -- decent vehicle but worst car in the class.
12) Volvo C70 -- except for this one.

BMW E89 Z4 sDrive35i. No 35is as it is not available with a 6-speed manual. I really like the 997 Cabriolet, but have a tendency to go crazy with the optiins list! So very hard to keep it at a resonable number.

The Asian RHT's should not even be on the list. The Special Toyota "Lexus IS350" is a convertible that is made for people that do not even like cars. The Audi A5 is a sweet looking ride. But it follows VW's "Audi" cabriolet formula, which is underpowered FWD and automatic only. So that is a big no. Looks great in black with the silver interior though.

The Corvette? A car with a pushrod engine, a wooden floor and fiberglass body is a cruel joke. And an interior that is ghastly! With a complete lack of refinement,uh hell no!
