OFF TRACK BETTING: How Many Episodes Of Top Gear USA Will There Be Before It's Cancelled?
As you may have heard in recent auto news headlines, Top Gear has been given the green light in America.

Some publications have even spotted the show already taping on the west coast!

But, there is something that needs to be asked: will the show flop?

Although Top Gear U.K. has an immense following around the world, it seems that there is something incredibly dynamic that cannot be replicated. With Russia and Austrailia boasting their own versions, they have not been able to reproduce the same international phenomenon.

With that said, place your bets!

Is the show going to kill it? Last half a season? Or, jump the shark completely?

Let us know in the comments below...

Will you be tuning in for the first episode?

There's no reason to expect it will bomb. A lot of shows have successfully made the trip across the pond (American Idol and The Office to name a few). The success of the show will depend on how well done it is. Part of the greatness of the English version is that they recruited the right people and do the right things. If the producers of thew USA version take the same care, they should do well.

I hope it never gets "canned". Without Top Gear (UK), I rely on Fifth Gear and Top Gear Australia episodes I never watched. Without any of them, I always find myself rescinding my complaints about Fifth Gear's existence. Today's world lacks so much in car-oriented TV entertainment!

There have been plenty of tremendously successful Shows that have transferred over the pond. American Idol and the Office are but two of them. I'm sure if you go in betting that it'll be terrible that you'll be able to find and tear apart different things in the very first show. But if you keep an open mind I'll bet you'll be equally impressed.

Why not just give the guys at Topgear (Clarkston and the boys) a raise and broadccast the UK format in the US.

I think you are right.

Have THEIR team do the USA episodes or more reviews of cars that come here.

No thank you. They are too biased.

Why can't they just have Leno doing Top Gear at 11:30ET? They might as well.

Why not? If they had the right cast, let's say Jay Leno, Tim Allen & Jerry Seinfeld. All car guys that would easily rival the UK Top Gear in commical intellect, then I think they'd definately have a shot!

Reports say that Leno turned it down.

I would love to see Leno, Seinfeld and Allen. Thats the best idea I have heard in a while.

Or the UK guys here would be great too. I just like the UK version and would like to see it on american roads.

Yes, Jay Leno turned it down because he said that the show will be ruined when its brought to america. I do hope it does well, hopefully they dont ruin it.

It will last 6 episodes(13 tops) before someone realizes how badly this turd is cast....One of the things that makes TopGear Great is the interaction between Capt.Slow, Hamster, and Everyone's "favourite" Middle Class Twit...Clarkson

Why can't someone realize this and offer them $1,000,000 each per season to do the US version?

Please dont remind us of how lame and fake that show was...

If any car companies sponsor the show.. it will fail miserably.
Why?
Because if the host(s) slam a model that a brand is sponsoring, guess what is going to happen?!!
They will complain.
Hell, I just think that if they bad mouth a car the true "Top Gear" way, they will complain regardless.
Because of the mentality of the people here versus Europe, I just don't see it have a the same following. It will just another car show..

Don't think it will last long at all. You can't say anything bad about anything in this country especially if they are sponsoring you which GM & Ford will most certainly be doing. Just look at MotorWeek & Car and Driver TV when they were popular they would try to find the nicest way possible to criticize even huge flaws. Remember in the United States of America, the corporation owns YOU!!!!

If Tim allen does it all It will be biased to American cars. Seriously, I can't see anyone doing it better than Captain Slow, Hamster and Of course Clarkson. The comedy they put into it is unmatchable in my opinion. Tim allen would be funny though.

Nothing rivals British comedy and from England, they always drive into Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Scandinavia, East Europe...From America, which new culture will they drive to? Canada???

If History follows the pattern of other cable networks, then History Channel will order a full season of probably around 10 episodes. They will play all episodes (at least 3 times per week). By the seventh episode, they will decide if they want to order a second season. Since Top Gear USA is going to a cable network, it does not have to pull incredible numbers to stay on the air. There are many successful cable shows on USA, Bravo, TLC, TNT, Travel, etc. that are able to remain on the air for several seasons on numbers that would have instant cancellation on the major networks.

Well if that's the case, COOL! The more cool car stuff on the air the better in my opinion. Yeah, I was thinking it was doomed on any of the major networks.
