Hyundai Preludes The 2011 Elantra: Have They Scored ANOTHER Hit?

Hyundai Preludes The 2011 Elantra: Have They Scored ANOTHER Hit?
Hyundai Motor Co. had its world-premier of the all-new Avante compact sedan, the company's best-selling model worldwide, at the Busan International Motor Show 2010 today.

"The new Avante encompasses Hyundai's latest ambitions, featuring the best styling and performance in its class," Steve S. Yang, President & CEO of Hyundai's Global Business Division, said at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO) today. "We're confident that it will once again redefine the compact segment worldwide."

With sportier and even more elegant lines than its predecessor, the new Avante ? badged as Elantra in markets outside Korea - continues Hyundai's 'fluidic sculpture' design philosophy.

Hyundai has applied its latest 1.6L Gamma Gasoline Direct Injection engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission to the front-wheel drive compact, the first time GDI and six-speed automatic have been featured on a compact sedan in Korea. The new Avante delivers a peak output of 140ps and maximum torque of 17.0kg·m. It is also about 10 percent more fuel efficient than its closest competitors, thanks to GDI, the six speed automatic and other fuel economy enhancements.

The new Avante will delight and surprise with a raft of other advanced features not found on other compacts, including HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlamps, LED combination lamps in the rear, heated rear seats, puddle lamps and a color TFT LCD information display nestled in the gauge cluster.

Under the Avante/Elantra badge, Hyundai has sold over 6 million units worldwide since the car's launch in 1990. Hyundai will begin sales of the all-new Avante in the second half of 2010 in Korea.

At a separate commercial vehicle booth, Hyundai displayed a hydrogen fuel-cell electric bus and a Universe Limousine luxury coach, among other displays.

Hyundai's New 1.6L Gamma GDI Engine

Hyundai displayed its all-new 1.6L Gamma GDI engine in Busan today, which it first showed in Beijing auto show last week. It is the smallest member of the Hyundai gasoline engine family to benefit from the application of Gasoline Direct Injection technology. With the help of GDI, this four-cylinder powermill develops 140ps, an approximately 13 percent improvement over a conventional 1.6L Gamma fed by MPI. GDI technology doesnt only boost power output: It also improves fuel economy while lowering emissions. The new Gamma also features Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing, a Variable Induction System and exotic anti-friction coatings such as CrN Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating and Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coating.

Frojt is a mash of Ford/Mazda/Vauxhall.
Back is definitely a mix of the Lexus IS250./220d and BMW 3 series..

The crazy European designer at Hyundai strikes again..

Hyundai has better designs than Acura do at the moment. They have a good designer who is sending the Korean firm to new heights and new territory that has never been seen by anyone before. They should gain market share and with more recognition and respect, branch out with a new luxury division, perhaps being called "Genesis".

The new Sonata is a hit.

I saw one here in Newport Beach, Ca a couple of days ago and it's a winner.

Let me add something.

WWII is over.

Go look where your TV, toaster, printer, cell phone and cars are made.

I was checking out a new Dodge Ram and Challenger the other day and the motors are made in Mexico.

For me that is already best in class. Great design especially for a car of this class. Great job Hyundai.

Another hit, design wise. I see Mazda 3 (and Sonata of course) in its design, all good things in this segment. Lets hop for a sporty drive and a nice interior, and it should definitely be a hit.

Best Hyundai yet of the four with the new design language (Tucson, Sonata, Accent and this)

I think Hyundai has found the right mojo with their latest designs. They've nailed down the midsize segment with the all new 2011 Sonata and now their doing the same in the boring C segment. This will ante up the mix.

I still think the Sonata looks better, but for it's class this is very impressive. I think I might have to get some Hyundai stock.

Fantastic. The "fluidic" design works again. Hyundai is becoming a design leader.

HS250 is a $30k hybrid Corolla - boxy, boring, generic. What a POS.

The Elantra looks great.

Oh yea, if you want to see Cut-N-Paste, look at the Lexus LS (they admitted it was basically a Mercedes replica), or the Toyota Century (wannabe Rolls). LOL. Pathetic Japs.

Dont mind him, he's just hurt that Hyundai can do what his precious toyota cannot understand how to, and will never be able to; design anything remotely interesting or good-looking to the eye.

"Hyundai magnificiently took an HS250h, taped on a Ford grille and glued on some bulbous IS250 taillights. Fluidic Sculpture = cut and paste."

Sir you lie!

Everything is cut and paste these days...it just depends on what you cut, how you paste and how you put it all together.

This car will do well, just on design alone...

The Sonota and Genesis Coupe are still my favorite out of their new designs. All of their vehicles have gotten drastically better as far as design, and I am totally digging them upscaling their interiors.

huu76 you are so conveniently misinformed. Your facts are always filled with misinformation and half-truths. Hyundai's market share continues to grow and so have their profits.

You know this already but yet you continue distortion. Is your hatred for this brand so great that it clouds your reality?

My, my. Pity. How disgraceful!

Your obsession with the topic of currency rate of exchange is very strange, if not glaringly overwrought. This is after all an automotive website. Yet it seems that at every juncture when the subject is the Hyundai brand, you constantly spout the same inane narrative repeatedly.

I can only speculate that you or someone close to you may have either been burned in the currency trade or have some personal vendetta against all things South Korean, since I have never seen you post anything other than xenophobic outright hatred toward them.

I do not need to get into the geopolitical economics of trade, that is for another site and venue. Too bad you are so dogmatic and fanatically, compulsively, rabid against Hyundai to post anything that is either meaningful or relevant.

Pity you twice.

Why would you buy a toyota/honda now. Hyundai is the new leader.
