Roadster Shootout: 2010 Audi TTS vs 2009 BMW Z4 vs 2010 Nissan 370Z vs 2009 Porsche Boxster S

Roadster Shootout: 2010 Audi TTS vs 2009 BMW Z4 vs 2010 Nissan 370Z vs 2009 Porsche Boxster S
The Porsche wins. The Boxster S is the very best roadster you can get for the money. Everything else you see on these pages competes for second place. Unless you're interested in reading about the first, second, and third losers, the story ends here.

Not used to seeing one of our multivehicle sagas laid out quite so succinctly, are you? Well, to be honest, neither are we. But in this contest of speed, style, and top-down dominance, it wasn't even close. Unlike the convertibles we compared last month, these roadsters represent the most sporting incarnations of the breed. Though they all have two seats and tops that drop, each vehicle pursues the roadster ideal with a completely different formula.

I gotta agree with Badgewhore, the Boxster's interior is not worth the 60+ grand.

I simply do not understand people who says the Boxster has "sub-par" interior. Sub-par to whom? The Boxster's interior is fine by any sports car standards. Its obvious, for 60K, you can purchase a comfortable car and get a "better" interior, but they will not give the intensity of the Boxster.

Besides, if you are hating on the Boxster's interiors, thats great, DON'T buy one. That will be one less Porsche driver on the road, and makes us Porsche drivers a little less diluted...

I simply cannot figure out why ugly and slowest Audi TTS get second place.

The Audi TTS gets second place because its chassis works properly and it has solid driving dynamics. The BMW Z4, while a nice design, is missing that usual BMW driving experience and so it finished behind the Audi TTS.

I would get the BMW Z4 of these 4.

Gotta agree on the Boxster interior, a car I've spent quite a bit of time in since my closest friend owns a 2008S, it's just plain underwhelming for the price and he agrees, but what a ride! Yeah performance is #1 but that's a big chunk of change for such a subpar interior you can't bend corners 24/7.

I expected the Z to finish last but perform well and it didn't disappoint, wish Nissan design studios would have spent a little more time with this one.

I am shocked by the review of the Z4 BMW will probably not take this lying down everyone, even the haters know that BMW is capable of top notch handling. the TTS has never been and never will be on my radar no drop top Beetle for me which is all I see when I look at any TT.

I drove a first-year Z4 on about 20 miles of canyons and I was shocked at how bad the handling was. But I always understood this was because of the runflats...which I though they had fixed a couple years later? I'm not a hater, I own a 330i.

It's amazing how similar, yet so far different each car is... Each one serves it's own individual purpose. I've always been a fan of the Boxster, but the body style just feels so old to me. The Audi is not my favorite in the looks department, but it is a huge improvement over the previous TT. Really, for me I'd be split between the 370Z and the Z4. If I wanted a sporty little roadster around $40k, I'd go with the 370Z, or if I wanted a hard top drop-top around $60k, I'd get the Z4. They're all great cars at what they are designed to, it really just comes down to what you are really looking for.

I guess bottom line is, if this were a Roadster Shootout to see which Roadster has the best interior, then perhaps people have a point when they say its interior is not worth 60K.

HOWEVER, this is a comparison for the best Roadster overall, and with that said, the BOXSTER WINS, hands down...

but it's the Porsche for girls

...and that "Porsche for girls" has one of the best chassis for racing you can buy, which is the same as the Cayman. On a track, it will run dead even with a 911 Carrera S (I'll let you look up the horsepower difference). All else being equal (hp, tires, etc), that girly Porsche would embarrass a 911 on any track. If Porsche managed to bury their 911 pride, they would dominate endurance racing again, all due to the gayness of a light, MID-ENGINED, low center of gravity chickmobile.
