Audi's April Sales Soar 33% For 2nd Best Monthly Performance In History and Record for April

Audi's April Sales Soar 33% For 2nd Best Monthly Performance In History and Record for April
-- Audi 2010 April sales increased 33% over 2009; only December 2006 provided better monthly results

-- Audi Q5 sales set a single-month record

-- A3 TDI accounts for nearly 60% of line's sales, exceeding expectations

HERNDON, Va., May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- After the best first quarter in the brand's history, Audi today maintained its 2010 momentum with record April sales in the U.S. For the month, sales of Audi cars and SUVs increased 32.9% compared to April 2009.

The April 2010 results were buoyed by record monthly sales for the Audi Q5 and the A5 Cabriolet, and they marked the second-best U.S. sales in any month for Audi. In April 2010, Audi sold 9,319 luxury cars and SUVs. This topped the previous record, set in 2007, of 8,106 vehicles sold. The best month for Audi in the U.S. was December 2006 when sales reached 11,897 vehicles.

Audi A3 sales jumped 144% from a year earlier. That gain was largely due to strong consumer demand for the A3 TDI model, which is the reigning 2010 Green Car of the Year. Another positive product story for Audi came from sales of the A6 luxury sedan which increased 105.2% over last April.

"Consumers of luxury goods are clearly buying again," said Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen. "As these buyers return to the car market they are seeking out cars representing substance, leading-edge engineering and sophisticated styling. Those priorities are the fundamental reason Audi has set record sales in three of the past four months."

Audi A5 continues its single-month sales record streak

The Audi A5 Cabriolet's popularity continued to grow, setting a monthly sales record of 797 cars in April (including Audi S5 Cabriolet results). In April, the overall A5 model line (including S5 and A5/S5 Cabriolet sales) posted a year-over-year increase of 171.5%. Without the A5/S5 Cabriolet models (which weren't available in April 2009), sales for the A5/S5 line increased a robust 54.3% from a year earlier.

Audi TDI technology convinces consumers to go "green"

Consumers are continuing to embrace TDI clean diesel technology from Audi in extraordinary ways. The Audi A3 TDI now accounts for 58.7% of the overall A3 model mix. Overall, A3 sales rose 144%, meaning sales of the TDI models are incremental since their introduction to the U.S. market late last year. The Audi Q7 TDI SUV continues to account for 36.2% of the Q7 line, a result that's largely limited by supply of the TDI models.

Audi Q5 also achieves best-ever sales mark

Since its debut in 2009, the Q5 has become the brand's second-best performing model, trailing only the A4 lineup. Sales of the Q5 crossover vehicle reached 1,910 units in April, an increase of 60.2% from last April.
The positive sales results for Audi in the U.S. came as AUDI AG reported its operating profits globally in the first quarter rose 30% to 478 million euros (roughly $632.7 million). Double-digit growth rates in all global regions over the first three months of 2010. In the first quarter, AUDI AG reported operating revenues of 8,260 million euros (roughly $10.9 billion).

Surprising to see the A6 selling so well after declines in recent years.

Amazing what a 300HP turbo can do for sales....

Yeah, profit from operations increased because their service now stinks (at least in North America). But I guess the awesomeness of their designs increased more than the level of their service has declined. I would love to buy an Audi now--great looks and performance. Unfortunately, I'm afraid they will weasel out of repairing anything that falls off or fails claiming it's a "wear item". This is very important for anything with a turbocharger!

only the 2.0t is turbo and it is one of the more reliable engines out there. Most of the Audi dealers i have worked for are great with service

Weird, all of the previously existing models actually declined in sales (except TT). It's mostly the totally new models that accounted for the sales increases. That surprises me since the new A4 is much improved from the older one.

Some of the previous A4 sales have transformed into A5 and Q5 sales.

thats how they are growing by adding to models which i guess by looking at the numbers is a bit misleading as just the raw number makes it seem as if their core models are also growing when in reality its the fact they added models thats giving them more sales....

the A8 is out of production and going to be replaced in a few months

the A6 is up in sales

the A4 is very low in inventory. We have 4 in stock and should have about 40

The TT is a low volume model and sales have always been low. They also import less versions to the US then in the past

Models like the Q5 will be the near future because they can make more money selling the Q5 vs the A4.
The Q5 and A5 (built on the A4 platform) also take a big chunk out of the A4 sales.

Audi sales will go up with more models but they still have 1/4 of the models of BMW/MB/Lexus

I don't understand how you can think that Audi's core models would be driving their sales growth, bmwdrvr. Except for the A4, the A6 is aged and ready for replacement and the A8 is just about to be history until the new 2011 model arrives next year.

Most important, though, is the fact that Audi's new models are extremely successful. The Q5 has been a huge success. The A6 already outsells the BMW 5-series and Merceds-Benz E-class worldwide. If Audi can make the next A6 a hit along with the A7 and A1, it will more than likely surpass BMW in global sales considering Audi sold just 2,000 fewer cars that BMW globally for the first quarter of 2010.

my point is that the way the article reads you would think that as a whole they are adding sales and gaining market share...when in reality they have more sales because they added new models... the sales of the new models is what is helping especially given the title you gave the BMW article lmao.... Why wouldnt they increase sales by adding new models?? They didnt have those models to sell last year lol. Not to mention you talk global sales numbers since the A1 "mini" competitor will be included are we going to group Mini in those numbers as well? Its ok to like a brand and be an enthusiast but your overly bias and your wrong most of the time..its odd.

I agree with iTexan; there is a problem indicator with the A4 numbers. The a5 and Q5 were around last year so its not all that logical to explain away the DECLINE in a4 sales (the BMW 3 series was up 44%; coupes, converts and sedan). I'll give you can add the a5 + a4 sales but as a group up 20% - and these models are the most current on the market, introduced after the 3 series and C Class. In my opinion, this should be lighting a fire under audi to make their new model design advances just a more evolutionary than the "yawn" approach they currently take...

we have no A4s to sell/

remember Audi is the only major luxury brand sold in the US that the USA is not there top market. Where would BMW, MB, and Lexus be with out the US market? With the increase in US sales this can only help Audi but they will only increase where they can make money.

We are 4th on the Audi scale behind Germany, England, and China. Audi is not importing as many A4s for some reason. They are making much more money with the A5,Q5,A6, and Q7 models.

Bmwdrvr, you are a moron. You would include the A1 sales in Audi's sales results when comparing Audi to BMW group, which includes the BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brands. Although the A1 is badged as an Audi, we know it is targeting BMW Group's MINI brand. Therefore, it would not be accurate to compare Audi's sales with the A1 included in the sales numbers to the BMW brand. Audi's sales numbers, if they include the A1, would be best compared to BMW Group's sales (which would obviously include sales of the MINI brand.)

Audi's old models are not selling nearly as well because as we all know Audi of America has experienced a shortage of vehicles. Yes, that's right, demand is outpacing supply. Audi does not have enough cars to meet the demand of customers. Audi's old models are selling just fine considering the A6 and A8 are just about to be history real soon.

Audi's new models are driving their growth because they are best in class. If you release a brand new product and make it best in class, it will sell. Look a the Audi Q5 as a prime example of this.

lmao now weve gone to name calling I love it you only support my claim about how off these Audi fans are. You restate what I said in a long paragraph proceeded by an insult ha. Contrary to belief EVERY German automaker is limiting their supply as are other European brands due to exchange rates if you think im lieing research it. Audi claiming they could have sold so much more with more stock is bs, they are thousands of sales down on BMW and Mercedes you mean to tell me they would have passed them if they had more inventory or even caught them??? non sense. Not to mention just like with the whole A5 uh hum shortage some areas had cars simply sitting on lots while others were selling better, this whole smoke and mirrors act tehy are pulling is getting old the A4 just got introduced and is already declining sales, is this due to a shortage??? Because Im pretty sure they had as many on the lot as last year at least....logic try it
