Would You LEND Your Car To A Stranger For $5 An Hour?

Would You LEND Your Car To A Stranger For $5 An Hour?
The New York Times reports:

Car sharing is changing. Sunil Paul, the clean-tech entrepreneur behind a new San Francisco service called Spride Share, looked at the numbers and decided that 10,000 shared cars in the United States was not likely to change the world (even if, as some sharing companies have said, each in-service vehicle takes 15 others off the road).

The answer, Mr. Paul says, is personal car sharing, in which car owners can get modest payments of $5 to $8 an hour to allow their often-idle car or truck to be shared, either by friends and neighbors or the larger car-sharing community. But before that dream can become reality, state law has to be changed.

According to Assemblyman Dave Jones, Democrat of Sacramento, “The existing auto market is an impediment to this environmentally friendly and economically positive approach to car sharing...

In one hour they can put on 100kms, so for $5000 I could potentially get an additional 100,000km put on my car... uhm... no... I'm guessing the people renting these cars are going to maximize the amount of use they get... so actually off time would be minimal... and who is responsible for filling the gas tank?

@spiceace,

Ha...ha...ha... I agree with Joe, ruben and spice here. Are you out of your Freaking mind? My next car is a G37 Sport Coupe, they probably going drive the shit out of it. You must be some kind of loser to be that desperate to rent out your car that cheap.

What about gas, maintaince and if it breakdown, who is responsible?

I would not agree at even $50 per Hour.

My Car is My CAR for a reason. I take "Take Care" of it and as such i expect it to "Take Care" of me as i drive at Triple Digit Speeds.

To just allow anybody to rent it on a constant basis is to undermine any such care i lavish on the Vehicle as other people do not care about the vehicle { Just wish to get from A-B}

Now i could go into the business of Leasing Shitty Little Vehicles at aprox $150 a month and then joining this scheme if i can guarantee a daily minimun of 10 hrs Rental 6 Days a week
({$5 X 10} X 26) = $1,300

Then Deduct Insurance and Maintenance and I am sure i could manage $600 a month per Vehicle.

It's basically renting. Not lending. You calculate the daily amount. $5 x 24.

It would be expensive to insure too doing that.

Not only no, but HELL NO. I mean, has anyone actually looked out their window at the way people drive? <<<Shudder>>> Some already poor driver, getting into an unfamiliar vehicle, then driving it about with even less care than they would give their own possessions? No thank you. $5 per hour?

I'd rather be beaten with soap-on-a-rope.
