SPIED: BMW's F12 6-Series Interior Gets Spotted

SPIED: BMW's F12 6-Series Interior Gets Spotted
Spied out testing was BMW's upcoming 6-Series convertible.

And, it is clear that its interior will boast three things:

1) A heavy F10 5-Series influence
2) A massive wide-screen for iDrive
3) A manual transmission (!)

So far, so good.

Next comes the debate whether this will or will not be a hard/soft top.

Personally, I will go on a limb and suggest it will be a soft top, a hard-top would be too heavy/clunky for a car of this size. Not to mention it could suffer from typical hard-top "bubble butt" syndrome.

What say you, Spies?

Bimmerpost reports:

Until now, we've only had one small little glimpse of the BMW 6 series interior with a short statement from BMW insider Scott that in essence alluded to the interior being a mix of the Z4 with the F10 5-series. Taking the best from both world would really create the ultimate interior environment. With these new photos we see a little bit more of the center console and it does look like the interior really will be a mixing of the two, from these pictures you can already see that this will be a very high end and elegantly appointed center console.

The F12 6-Series has been promised to be the most beautiful car BMW has put in years, and looking at the BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe Concept there is no reason to think otherwise.

In terms of the body, this will most definitely be a convertible, but the debate rages on weather this is a folding hardtop or a traditional canvas top...

Things I want from the next 6 series:

1) To be not ugly.
2) To reduce its ugliness from the back.
3) To reduce all the ugly in the front.
4) Ugly interior reduction.
5) Elimination of all things ugly.

Basically take everything in the current 6 series and do the opposite.

I loathe the current 6 series interior. One of the worst in the industry.

@theman and 0to60

I guess all the 6 series sold since 2004 and the 10-15 I se everyday just driving back and fourth to work including mine....I guess we all bought the car cause it was ugly and it has a crappy interior. The 6 seires is one of the best selling sport coupes on the market just please give me a break with your talk about the interior. I guess based on the interior in your eyes BMW should not have sold 1 6 series. Go get an audi since your so damn worried about an interior and thats all you base your buying a car on

@ B7FAN

I'm sure I know why you bought your 6 series, because it had a BMW badge. Ever since its introduction, this thing has been horrid, inside and out. The interior is cheap looking and uninspired. The exterior, front end design is too low and the rear is just plain ugly. That whale back form and "bangle but" only seems plausible on the convertible, as needed space for the top. I'm happy you like it, but stop making us believe you bought this car because it wasn't "ugly and [doesn't have] a crappy interior".

I've sat in an R8, the interior is definitely not my cup of tea. The steering wheel looks more in place on a go cart with it's awkward center hub, and the stick shift looks like a giant chromed out keg. Mix in with the raw amount of plastic still littered in this expensive car and I'd say you have a very lacking interior.

Joe Limon, R8 > pretty much every BMW with maybe the exception of the new 5 series.

Simply put BMW makes the worst interiors out of MB, Audi and Lexus, its the truth...

I agree with you on the plastic in the R8, but, my car has the carbon fiber interior package which means all the plastic is replaced with carbon fiber..and I love the steering wheel, I dont know what you are talking about there..Performance car of the year 2008 must have an amazing steering wheel, wouldnt you agree?

Um B7, when I purchased my X5, I did not buy it for the looks. It was all about performance. I can get over an ugly car to a certain extent. Now I actually like the exterior styling of the 6 series. I would purchase one. But I do not like the styling of the interior. Please do not put words in my mouth or exaggerate anything I say.

interior is bland and blah in the 6. But I would still consider purchasing one.

lISTEN TO ALL 6 SERIES INTERIOR HATERS OR SHOULD i SAY BANGLE HATERS jus note that 80% of people buy a car because of its looks and reputation and you have your select few that are looking for performance over looks and to me the 6 series has the performance and the looks of what a sport coupe should be. If you all think the 6 interior is crappy then thats fine thats your opinion all i have to say is that there is a hell of alot of people that like the "SO CALLED" crappy interior and the BANGLE design.

@OBIE......I bought the 6 SPECIFICALLY for its unique look and it doesnt look like every other BMW out there....(SOMETHING AUDI IS EXTREMLY FAMILIAR WITH) If you think the exterior and interior are ugly all of that is fine thats all opinionated and preference so it doesnt bother me you say the car is ugly and i like the whole car.

@theman.....since you brought up the R8 I have a question for you

In terms of design and performance What would the R8 look like and what engine would they use if it wasnt based totally on the Gallardo?

and also since BMW makes the ugliest interiors why did audi and MB copy the 2002 Bangle 7series with the fixed monitor in the dash for the GPS and radio.
Why is Audi "NOW" using thigh support on their seats?
Why when BMW put a 10 cylinder in the M5 Audi jus happened to put a 10 cylinder in the S6?
By you people saying BMW has the worst interiors to me that means they have something unique and not just CARBON COPIED FROM ANOTHER CAR

B7FAN... duly noted. But it was Adrian van Hooydonk that designed the 6 series (based off the Z9 Gran Turismo concept), not Chris Bangle. :-)

I have to admit I feel sorta let down, the CS concept was amazing and the only car that benefits from its dramatic interior/exterior styling is the Z4???? Why does that make sense, I like other Bmw enthusiast really liked the conservative, sleek, elegant look of past BMW's but I also liked the looks of the more adventurous ones as well namely the 8 series, cs, 507, z8, m1, z1, etc, the 6 series segment is the one segment where BMW can afford to get a little crazy in the styling area all the other cars it will compete with have beautiful styling granturismo, 911, XK, and SL why make BMW's GT look like a 2 door 5 series (which is already very conservative) on the interior and exterior......i guess ill reserve full judgement until i see it but so far im not liking it.

Two things they need to do
1. Add lightness
2. Dont use the ugly stick on it

The current 6 completely lost the elegence of the 3.0CS and earlier 635s and turned into an overweight, bloated beast not aligned with BMWs core brand value. Time to fix that. Leverage the CS Concept; it's a good one.

3- Cabrio does not have a "Bubble Butt" and it is a 2+2 so no reason to think the 6-Cabrio would develop a "Bubble Butt" if it goes Hard.

However I still prefer the Soft Top for the Cabrios and i think it will be better suited to the GTing intentions of the 6.

Better Trunk Space also with Soft Top.

This center stack looks dull for a 80K luxury sports coupe. Are there any designers left at BMW? Are the engineers now designing as well? I hope there's more to see / impress once its revealed, but I doubt it.

looks like it's the same center stack as the $100k+ 7-Series, a vehicle which has received universal praise as having an excellent interior, so I'm sure it'll be ok in the less expensive 6-Series.

Universal praise, yeah? By whom? Any awards or design experts in this "universal praise"? By dull, I mean uninspiring. Nothing innovative or authentic in design. Oh, a center stack with air vents on top and stereo + HVAC controls below, how 1985 of them. Yes, the materials used do seem well picked, but the design itself is dull.

I agree. But I think that BMW wanted to remove "clutter" which intern made the interiors stark, spartan, boring, and cold. The E60's interior resembled the inside of a coffin, the F10 is much better.

Obie, by every magazine and website that has reviewed the vehicle, which by now has been basically all of them. As for the layout, well, I'm not sure what you want me to say. I guess they could change where the vents are and arbitrarily put them below the stereo and the HVAC controls, and move those controls to some other arbitrary place just to make you feel like they innovated something and are therefore worthy of your praise, but since those controls and vents are IN THE SAME PLACE IN EVERY OTHER CAR I don't think BMW would be doing anyone a favor by moving them to places no one is used to just for the sake of "innovating". Sorry if having the controls and vents in locations that billions of people are used to is a problem for you, but it's going to be a problem for you with every other car too.

As for the 6-Series interior itself, if it makes it better for you, literally EVERY review of the new 5-Series has said it has the best interior in the class. Can we agree there? It's difficult to argue that since everywhere you look, that's what it says. Well, the 5-Series dash/cluster/center stack is cribbed right off the 7-Series. So if my saying the new 6-Series interior must be nice because it looks like a 7-Series is no good for you because you refuse to accept the 7-Series has a nice interior, then I'll rephrase to say the new 6-Series must have a nice interior because it looks like a 5-Series interior. Better?

"literally EVERY review of the new 5-Series has said it has the best interior in the class. "

- That's funny. I've read reviews about the E60's interior and Spartan, cold, and stark were the words used to describe it. I tend to agree with that assessment. The E60's interior was a Button less bore with vast expanses of plain unused plastic panels.

@ JRobUSC...

It seems people either don't know or don't understand the word design. What you are speaking of is called ergonomics. This is why like you said "...since those controls and vents are IN THE SAME PLACE IN EVERY OTHER CAR...". Now this is true. But the same is said about cars (4 tires, internal combustion engine, etc...), but not all cars are D E S I G N E D as equal, right? So, to clarify, lets compare cars in its class (7 series, for now) with inspiring interiors. New Audi A8 with its innovative touchpad and Jaguar XJ. Both done with the same ergonomic layout, but designed uniquely modern, clean, and beautiful.

The 6 series is a 5-series coupe, at 7 series pricing. Big ripoff.

The interior pictured looks nicer than the current 6 series. But still not worthy of a $80k car interior imo. The portion of the interior pictured wouldn't look out of place on the much, much cheaper 3-series. There's a reason why BMW enjoys some of the highest profit margins in the industry. And that reason isn't a good reason for the customer.

Doesnt look un-like a typical Bimmer interior. Nothing really suprising here. I want to see the exterior.
