Over Half Of All Corvette Sales Are Now Grand Sports Models
When the GM rolled out the Corvette Grand Sport, Corvette Product Manager Harlan Charles thought the new model would account for about half of all Corvette production.

He was right. So far though April 14, 51% of all Corvettes built are Grand Sports. While the Grand Sport has helped increase the amount of convertibles built from 20% of Model Year production in 2009 to 28% in 2010, the shocker is how much the Grand Sport has reduced the number of Z06s, to just 4% of production. Perhaps now we see why the Corvette Z06 is getting all the attention for 2011.

Model Quantity % of Prod
Corvette Coupe 2,605 25%
Corvette Convertible 856 8%
Corvette Grand Sport Coupe 3,211 31%
Corvette Grand Sport Convertible 2,065 20%
Corvette Z06 402 4%
Corvette ZR1 1,348 13%
  ——–
TOTAL (through April 14) 10,487

I don't understand why so many people pay so much more for the grand sport pack when it doesn't make the car go that much faster or handle/brake that much better

I'm surprised the ZR1 is selling so well. This is relatively high volume for a $100K car.

I agree, there were almost as many zr1's sold as there were 911's sold!

pennfootball: it's an upgrade from the base Corvette, adding most (if not all) the Z51 options. GM hit a sweet spot... something above the base Corvette and below the ZR1.

Plus it offers something Corvette fans have been waiting years for- a wide body Convertible.

Many hoped the 1990-96 ZR-1 would come eventually in covertible- it didn't. When the new ZR-1 came out in 06' many were hoping the same thing but again it didn't happen. So now you can finally get the wide body look with those 11 inch wide rear rims in convertible form and 436HP as well. Not too shabby....

The "new ZR1" came out in 2009. The ZO6 came out in 2006. I agree about he wide body convertible. We were at the museum last April (2009) when they unvailed the Grand Sport. It's really nice. I look forward to owning one someday.

I had no idea the BMW Z4 sold that well.

I spoke to Harlan at the B Bash in Bowling Green last weekend. He's pretty proud of that prediction he made. The assembly plant has been working overtime the last few weeks. Things are looking better. The 2011 will be rolling out in a matter of weeks. Lots of changes with the ZO6.
Stay tuned.
