VIDEO: Was The Lexus GX460 Fiasco OVERHYPED Or What? Compare Before & After
Thanks to Lexus Enthusiast, we have gotten a look at video from Toyota depicting the Lexus GX460's Vehicle Stability Control issue and remedy back-to-back.

There is something really intriguing about seeing the car before and after its remedy.

As a matter in fact, it is so clear that the media blew this situation WAY out of proportion. It was a simple software fix. Slapping on a "Do not buy," label on the car for this?

To the agents it seems like Consumer Reports was trying to earn back some cred after being all about Toyota in recent years.

Take a look at the video below and see for yourself.

Toyota's press release follows:

TMC Announces Remedy for Vehicle Stability Control in Lexus GX 460 and Toyota Land Cruiser Prado

Toyota City, Japan—Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces its remedy for the problem concerning the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) program in its Lexus GX 460 and certain Land Cruiser Prado vehicles.

In circumstances in which advanced driving skills are required, such as when a driver of the involved vehicle sharply turns the steering wheel in high-speed conditions, or when the driver negotiates a curve at excessive speeds, the vehicle could slide sideways, due to the insufficient activation of the VSC.

The following conditions combine to cause the problem:

- In the GX 460 and Land Cruiser Prado, heavy components, such as the fuel tank, are located on the left side, and in left-hand drive versions, the left side is made even heavier because of the presence of the driver.
- For vehicles with certain tires (on 18-inch wheels) and equipped with the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS*) and VSC, the activation of the VSC may not be sufficient in certain circumstances due to the setting of the VSC program.
- Circumstances may require advanced driving skills, such as sharp turns of the steering wheel in high-speed conditions or negotiating a curve to the right at excessive speeds.

As a remedy, Toyota will update the VSC program to enhance the effectiveness of the VSC so that the risk of the vehicle sliding, even to the point that it is almost sideways, will be reduced.

Vehicles involved are as follows:

- GX 460: Approx. 13,000 units in total Approx. 9,400 units in the United States, approx. 1,000 units in Russia, approx 1,000 units in Oman
- Land Cruiser Prado: Approx. 21,000 units in total (only left-hand drive vehicles with KDSS and VSC) Approx. 4,400 units in Oman, approx. 4,000 units in Russia, approx. 1,500 units in the United Arab Emirates.  No right-hand drive units have this problem.

In total, approximately 34,000 units worldwide are involved.  In North America, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. (TMS) and Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) each announced a voluntary recall on April 19 (local time).  As for other regions and countries involved, such as in Europe and the Middle East, TMC will work to implement similar measures as soon as possible.

More like more boring now; it was definitely overhyped. At least the SUV doesn't seem to come to a complete stop before the computer gives the driver back his control; I would definitely be going around a corner at that speed when running from trouble, and I would hate for the bad guys to expect me to slow down either by myself or by a recall from the crazy days of 2010.

Honestly, I wish that this video were posted earlier - right when the problem was fixed, so most won't subconsciously feel that Toyota/Lexus took forever.

If Toyota found that there was a problem and stopped selling the SUV and then found a fix for it and start selling it again then there was "True" problem indeed.

OH wait all of this did happen!

Most things in the world whether it's Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Lexus, Bentley, RR, Maybach, whichever brand you want to think about, is ALWAYS exaggerated. The media wants attention and that's what keeps them afloat. People love to smash and bash at the world's most respected companies especially the Europeans which have had strongholds for a long long time. Problems are problems and I am sure they will be fixed. It's just bad publicity for Toyota that's all. Every company goes through it. No one's perfect.

There was a problem and yeah maybe it was overhyped, but the underlying issue here is that toyota has a very poor attitude when it comes to safety in their cars. This is just another example of toyota ignoring safety issues with their cars!

Who needs Government regulations? Can you imagine how dangerous toyotas (and cars in general) would be if it weren't for Gov't regulations? And there are folks (retards) who are crying for less Government. LOL!!!

Larger the Government .... Smaller the man!! Also, If a Product or Vehicle is unsafe,,, Don't Buy It !!! It's called common sense and the Government is the last place you will find that.. It's a retarded mentality that waits for the Government to pass a law to then know what to do.

You guys truly haven’t got a clue.

Bfghemicuda,

If a product or vehicle is unsafe don’t buy it. Let me ask you this; how are we supposed to know if a product is safe or not without buying it? Consumer Reports? LOL!! Someone has to be the guinea pig. And that’s where Government steps in. The Government finds out if the products is safe or not without you having to buy it and find out the hard way. Would you rather inspect your own meat? Or would you rather have the government make sure that safe meat is being sold. When you get a prescription, do you inspect the pills yourself? How do you know if the pills are safe? Answer; the Government.

M35MT,

There are things that individuals are incapable of assessing. Things like Pharmaceuticals and food preparation. And then there are things like Seatbelts, Airbags, and crash crumple zones. How do you think all those safety measures came into play? Or are we supposed engineer crash crumple zones our selves?

You guys are crazy. Would you rather live in an ungoverned country? I mean... you can always move to Somalia. LOL!!! Or would you rather people die first? that way we’ll know if a product is safe or not. I prefer the Government to keep companies honest because the only way an individual can do it, is at high cost (read: Guinea pig).

I get it. You people want a smaller "Obama" Government. LOL!! I didn't hear this "Smaller Goverment" talk when bush was taking away our civil liberties.

This saying sums you guys up the best:

"We hate our President more than we love our country"

Also, Not to mention small goverment things like:

The Police. Too much Goverment, we don't need the police!!!

Fire Department. We can put out our own fires!!!

The Military. We don't need an Army, We have our 2nd amendment rights. If anything we as citizens can protect ourselves against other contries armed forces with our own guns. We don't need tanks.

LOL!!

If it wouldn't have been for the media, Toyota would have waited for a few deaths til they fixed the problem.

I think that's what they would rather have. Better to have people die than to get the Government involved. Some people here are retarded.

Seems that there are people more comfortable with people dying than they are about Toyota being shown in a Negative light.

People dying is OK. It's when you bad mouth Toyota, that's when it becomes a problem for some people.

Toyota has the worse fans (Running neck-and-neck with Audi. BMW fans are not far behind)

fore the mere fact that the GX is so fugly, it should have a "dont buy" stamp on it.

and yes, i think the issue was overhyped. I am no TOYOTA fanboy but the media generally tends to overhype situations like these. especially after it became so popular to hate on TOYOTA
