Things are not looking so good for the all-new Audi RS5.

The hotly anticipated and tarted up version of the A5 has not been fairing so well in the auto reviews. First, EVO magazine's Chris Harris expressed his thoughts that were not entirely favorable when compared to the M.

Now, AutoExpress has said that the RS5 lacks the M's "ultimate driver focus."

Are you buying it or is this simply being blown up?

Let us know in the comments below...

M3post reports:

In the latest AutoExpress* they have finally tested the M3 equipped with the 'Competition Pack' and their opinion is more than just favourable, in fact it's took the M3 to another level of involvement...

I would say that perhaps the criticism to the RS5 is because it seems as though it is more of a GT while the M3 is a sports coupe. Thats just the way I perceive the cars. Just looking, on the road, at the two cars, the A5/S5 just looks bulkier and has a "bigger presence" than the sportier M3.

I dont think RS5 and M3 are direct competitors.

I think the M3 and RS5 are only rivals on paper... in reality, they appeal to two completely different drivers

I wouldn't say that. Many M3 drivers never track their cars and drive them as more or less as a GT....Hence BMW developing the Elec Damper Control Option for the E9x M3.......

Yes, the S5 is bulkier on the outside, but sitting in a 335i coupe is much more roomy. One of my friends regrets not getting the 335i coupe because his S5 is not only slower (he tried to race me in my 335i sedan and I smoke him every time) but the S5 is smaller on the inside for friends and it cost him $12,000 more.
The Audi is not a drivers car, they have toned down the steering and handling to be more "luxurious". Dont believe me? How come people ONLY talk about Audi's interior and not their driving dynamics?

God I am tired of the same old argument from BMW fan boys... go drive a S4 and see what it does to your 335i... see if it is not a driver's car...

Alex, the S4 is a great car, and in most comparison tests (most, not all) has been quicker than the 335i sedan. The S5, however, while also a great car, is slower than both the S4 and 335i, and will be quite a bit slower than the 335is Coupe that BMW considers the S5's competition. An S4 probably will be too, but they're not competitors since the 335is isn't available as a sedan (which pisses me off, because I'd buy one).

If your 335 if stock - there is no way you "smoke" the S5 -- S5 0-60 4.9 sec 335 0-60 5.3 sec (factory specs)

On a dry race track, in the hands of a competent racer, the BMW M3 will likely edge out the competing Audi. However, I don't drive on a race track, and I don't have the skills of a race driver. Not by a long shot. So to *me*, performance at the "edge of the envelope" is not relevant.

*My* conclusion is that BMW has great appeal to those who want to buy the "bragging rights" that come with the best "numbers". For the other folks, get what you want and what works for yoou, which might be a BMW, or an Audi... or even a Ford Focus.

Happy and safe driving to you :-)

Its interesting to see after the RS4 surprised with its character rich dynamicism despite being nose heavy that early review of the RS5 from one source is lukewarm even with its advanced drivetrain with power vectoring, less front weight biased, and more HP. I guess per Chris Harris who actually owns one and has driven the RS5, the M3 is that good? From what I can see, Chris's taste lean towards cars you can get pretty wild in if you've seen previous reviews and cars he has fawned over like the GT3 and E63. I like the tail of my cars to stay planted and would find that a selling point to me of the RS5 winter's are snowy where I live.

@u080570,

you're wrong bro because numberous test by automagazie had the BMW 335i going from 0-60 in 4.8 second like the last Gen BMW M3. And the when they dyno test the BMW 335i sedan and coupe version the 335i like close to 355 hp Not 300 hp like BMW stated it.

Don't get me wrong, I just like to give credit where credit is due. I love the new Audi S5 and RS5 coupe as well.

And here is a video on youtube where the BMW 335i beat the Audi S5 on the track,

And via verse, when you compare BMW M3 and Audi RS5 it like choosing between an apple or orange.

Me personally I would pick the Audi RS5 coupe on look alone because it very unique, agressive and the Audi A5, S5 and RS5 is very rare where I live.

It NOT like you're going to have chance push your BMW M3 or Audi RS5 coupe to the limit on the street.
