What Next? Buyers No Longer Being Impressed By Toyota Cash Incentives
Buyers were willing to overlook Toyota's safety troubles the last few months thanks to zero-percent financing and other deals, but as the lure of incentives fades, Toyota has a tough job: Winning over consumers who no longer trust the brand.

Toyota Motor Corp. hasn't had to face the music yet. Last week, it extended its incentives through June 1, and some analysts expect the company will keep offering deals through the summer. But at some point, Toyota will wean itself from incentives and determine the true extent of the damage from its recalls of more than 8 million vehicles over faulty gas pedals and brake problems in the Prius.

"Toyota has way less recalls than Ford, GM, Chrysler... The difference, is you just don't hear about them on the news, as Toyota gets all "attention".

- There's another difference. Toyota's killed people. I don’t see the other brands making cars that kill people like Toyota did. You build cars that kill people, you get the most attention. It's that simple. Or would you rather no one pay attention to Toyota and their substandard quality?

It changes but I always root for the underdog.

Actually the way it is going I may end up rooting for Toyota pretty soon, they need all of the help they can get.

Largest car maker doesn't equate to them building the best cars. Largest car maker equates to boring applicance cars with substanard Quality.

For so many decades, Toyota had been about quality & function first. Now the company has shifted it priority to profitability & market dominance. It’s a matter of decision on what the company/brand wants to become. There is no right or wrong in the world of business.

quality & function first" = Looking out for the Customer first.

profitability & market dominance = Looking out for thier (the companies) best interest.

I know which company I would prefer. How about you? Or it doesn't really matter because its Toyota? So therefore they can do no wrong. Even if thier cars killed people.

Companies that concentrates on quality first not only look after their customers – they exist as a group that continuously pursuit something meaningful. I certainly would prefer a car company that cares about and realizes its dream… for both itself & its customers.

Cash incentives are like crack cocaine. They give great results but at a horrible price.

well if it makes you fell better Japan has done a great deal of keeping foreign automakers out of it's market along with anybody else selling non Japanese goods.

Toyota will stay in the market, that is for sure. But nonetheless it will cost them quite a fortune to overcome the actual situation. Count in the discounts, the NHTSA penalty (but that´s only peanuts) and all the lawsuits (and for the Toyota hardliners: Even lost cases in court can cost you money) which are on the way, and you will see that real profits (and not made up “book” profits) will be gone for quite a while.

That could actually force them to go back to what they where damn good in: Copying the Germans again.
