Lexus LFA Nurburgring Package priced at $70,000

Lexus LFA Nurburgring Package priced at $70,000
Lexus announced today that it will offer LFA customers a limited edition Nurburgring Package. For those who don’t know, the package adds an extra 10 hp to the powerful 4.8-liter V10 engine, which means that car will have a total of 562 hp.

With these numbers, the car can sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.7 seconds while the top speed achieved is 202 mph (325 km/h). The gear-shift time has been reduced by 0.05 seconds to only 0.15 seconds for even faster gear changes.

wow, that package provides tremendous value, where else can you spend $7000 per hp?

Oooh, yet another "Limited Edition 'cuz You're Special" car, commanding a fat premium for exclusivity. The extra 10 hp, which is available near the redline, prepresents a <1.8% increase that the driver won't even feel, and the stopwatch won't even measure.

so now it's $450k. Seriously. Someone explain to me why I'd spend $450k on one LF-A when I could get a Ferrari 599 GTO (which is likely just as fast around The Ring, as if that really matters, and is, you know, a Ferrari)? Or a 458 Italia for speed (let's be honest, most people on the street won't know the difference, all they'll see is "Ferrari") AND a Rolls Royce Ghost or Bentley as a luxo-cruiser? I'm sorry, but $450k for a new 1994 Toyota Supra with a Lexus badge is ridiculous, no matter how fast it is.

I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you're being sarcastic. If you weren't then I just feel bad for you. The 599 GTO costs the same amount as the LF-A btw, it just comes with the added benefit of being a Ferrari and not a Toyota.

The LF-A is a joke. A bad joke. I kinda feel sorry for Lexus.

Collectors buy these kind of extremely limited cars.

correct me if I'm wrong... but don't collectors buy cars with heritage? It would be like just over a decade ago going out and buying a vector... the vector is a cool car but very few collectors would waste the space in their garage with one.

true, collectors buy extremely limited cars -- but here's the problem. Lexus isn't letting you buy this car. You can't walk into a Lexus dealer and plunk down $450k for one (ignoring how ridiculous that idea is in the first place) and keep it as a collector piece like you could for a Ferrari, or Lamborghini, or, well, ANY OTHER CAR. No sir, Toyota is making you LEASE the LF-A. So not only can't you buy the LF-A, but you're being forced to finance it through Toyota's captive finance arm, meaning you're not even paying $450k -- they're collecting thousands upon thousands extra in interest. On a car they may or may not allow you to buy out at the end of the lease (and even if they do let you buy it out at the end for some ridiculous residual you still paid several years worth of interest for the privelage of leasing it first, when you wanted to buy it anyway). That $450k MSRP will end up being a $500k purchase when all is said and done.

This is an absolute screw job all the way, in every way.

the base LFA is so overpriced it's comical that they'd put out a slightly tweaked version for $70k. Toyota should focus on it's PR calamity they have on their hands and forget this nonsense. If they have improvements to the LFA, just put them into the next model year.

Talk about a concept, the Nurburgring edition is painted in a flame & smoke color scheme.

All you guys talk crap about this car but, would also be the first to plunk down 1 Million on a Bugatti that's not even 10 times the car of the LFA. The LFA is an engineering prowess. Talk all you want, since, Lexus is the underdog in every car case, however, when the technology starts to ripple through from the LFA to other Lexus siblings like the IS, GS or maybe even the LS, they will start to produce much better products and just like the early 80's they'll also probably get the last laugh. I mean, Nissan already made Porsche go back to the drawing board to produce a much better vehicle just to defeat it.

Nissan isn't charging $450k.

I think the LF-A is way overpriced. With that price I could get an Aston Martin or a Ferarri. But the LF-A is a good competitor against Nissans Godzilla.

Don't get me wrong, I like Lexus, but seriously. $70,000 for 10 extra hp? That's a bit much.
