Rumor: Baby Toyota FT-86 in the works
According to the latest reports, it appears that Toyota is considering a baby FT-86 sports car which will carry the company’s 3SZ-VE engine, a 1.5-liter inline-4 capable to deliver around 109 bhp.

The new car will take on cars such as the Honda CR-Z and will be with $5,000 cheaper than the FT-86. Although we don’t have too much details regarding the new car, sources confirm the debut in 2012, but nothing is for sure.

$5000 cheaper? I'd be impressed if they didn't just say they are jacking up the FT86 price by $6000 to make the engine more "green".

Now honestly, who in their right mind is going to think 109hp in a 2900lb car is enough for a sports car? Heck it's hard enough to even consider those specs as sporty.

I think models such as the IQ would sell better under the Toyota brand.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's more than rumor. Toyota already claimed the FT will be overpriced from what it was to be and slower, and less appealing. So they have to create another slower, cheaper version. I see their next Scion tC...yawn. All my interest in this FT has waned and I'll be looking closely at the new WRX wideboy.
