Time will tell if Toyota has changed, says Ray LaHood
As US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood made a visit to Toyota Motor Corp.’s Japan headquarters, he said that he isn’t about to reject the idea of additional fines to be imposed on the automaker.

LaHood clarified that the agency will continue to review the documents presented to it. He said that safety is the number one priority and that if the case calls for it, he will make the necessary recommendations. Toyota had said that it will pay the $16.4 million fine imposed by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on April 19 for its failure to promptly report defects in vehicle accelerator pedals that have resulted to recalls of over 8 million vehicles worldwide.

you and the information you provided is irrelevant. And might I add that sometimes it is better to go outside of the auto industry for something like this. When you have certain connections within something you oversee... you might just let certain things slide from certain people. If I am coming in on the outside, I typically will come in with an unbiased point of view. So in that instance, it would be better to have someone with the "experience" you are looking for.

when people are selected for jury duty, they do not seek candidates with a background in law... Instead the jury typically comes from various backgrounds. So how are they experienced enough to come to a conclusion on someones conduct?

Get my drift?

Everyone knows that Obama wants the Japanese to fail, especially Toyota. Why didn't I think about that. Plus it's Obama's fault that the price of gas keeps going up, that Toyota had all those recalls, that consumer reports said one of their SUVs were unsafe.

Come to think of it all the crap that's gone wrong with Toyota IS Obama's fault. Period.

What American recalls cost lives?
What American Automaker took years to take action on said recall when they in fact knew about life threating recalls before hand and did nothing for the sake of profits. Huu you and anybody else that defend Toyota is an idiot when the evidence is clear that Toyota can give a dam about you and your family just to make a buck.

Leave Toyota Alone!!! We do not need the Government getting involved in automotive safety. Too much government!!! Toyota and all other Manufacturers should be allowed to use any part they like without the government telling them that the part is unsafe.

Big government is the worse thing that could happen to people. It was Big Government that forced car manufactures to equip their cars with seat belts (you know how much it costs car manufacturers to put seatbelts in every car?). Then the Gov’t forced the car manufactures to build cars that can withstand crashes, Blasphemy!!!. Air bags, etc… All this stuff costs the car manufacturers billions and affects the company’s bottom line.

Government should just get out of the way and allow car manufactures to do whatever they want. Even if it means that once in a while a defective part might kill a couple dozen people. That’s just a small price to pay to achieve high profits. Which is what Capitalism is all about, high profits. People are secondary.

Big government did not force Volvo to enhance there cars with safety features. Volvo used them for selling points.

Bigger Government does not make things better or safer. A smaller, leaner more pinpoint effective government is the answer. Obama should practice what he preaches. He is doing exactly to our Government what he is forcing Corporations not to do. Big Government equals more political greed and higher failure rate. Big Government can't save you from yourself.

Smaller Government?

You mean like less police officers on the road?
Or a smaller Post Office?
Reduction in the amount of Firefighters?

What exactly do you mean by smaller Government? I think if the Government were reduced by one individual (president Obama) there would be no one complaining about big government. The Government got to big when Obama got elected. LOL!!!

bfghemicuda,

Government hasn't got any bigger with the Obama admistration. In fact it's smaller because of the Republicans holding up his nominees for key positions (like head of homeland security). The problem isn't Obama, The problem is the flawed Congress and Senate. Obama isn't perfect but he's far better than what we had before and whoever the Republican alternative was. I'll admit there's way too much bureaucracy, but that existed before Obama. But for some reason people choose to blame everything on Obama, which is far from being fair.

I guess it boils down to this. No matter who’s elected (whether they do a good job or not) there’s going to be people that hate him based off of nothing but sour-grapes.

FWIW, I'm not too big on Obama. But he's far better than McCain/Palin would have been or any person on the other side. And as far as GM being Owned by the Goverment? Would you have rather seen them go under? Personally, I would have. Obama wants to make our country better, but his hands a tied because people (Some Government officials) are still mad at the fact that he won.

Question? Who would you rather have in charge.

uaw_lax..Just keep reading huu76s comment over and over. Hopefully You will eventually figure it out.

LexSucks.. Im sure there are Gov officials mad that Obama won. There is a large amount of American People that are not necessaraly mad that Obama won,, they are mad at his policies. Most did not know of his past or how he voted on certain issues due to the fact that he didn't do much. I have heard more people say " If I knew he was this far left, I would have never voted for him"
