Bmw wants to convince U.S. customers that built-to-order vehicles worth the wait
It appears that Bmw has big plans for the U.S. market as the Bavarian manufacturer announced its intentions to convince consumers that it’s worth to wait for a built-to- order vehicle.

Here’s the plan: the new Bmw X3 sport-utility vehicle will make its debut in the U.S. early next-year and the manufacturer wants to use dealers in order to help promote options such as a $185 iPod adapter and a $1,350 panoramic moonroof. Apparently, this move is also good for Bmw because it will help it to reduce costly inventory and ward off discounting.

It's nice to have options but I feel like BMW just has too many options. I feel like they're nickel and dimming me every time I customize a car. I think if you really want a personalized car then it's worth the wait but it's also kind of hard to get a good resale when everything is so custom. It would be nice for BMW to offer something like Lexus with 3 different packages and then if you want to you could customize it further.

yes, too many options. and there were too many books to choose from in soviet russia--so they eliminated the problem by limiting those choices. good idea.

you're completely missing the point of the LUXURY of having a car the way YOU want it. not the way the manufacturer has decided you should have it. that's one of the many reasons lexus sells a such a steep discount to comparable mercedes and bmw models. it's also sad to rows of identical cars. how it that luxury?

Good move. No one buys the X3 anyway, so why keep any inventory and hurt their customers' eyes when they visit the dealerships?

i always order mine. it's one of the benefits of buying a luxury car. i want the the EXACTLY THE WAY I WANT IT. bmw--like mercedes and most of european carmakers--offers so many individual options rather than option packages. and that's the way it should be.

GM alreadys dose this, so it will work for BMW. When you are paying big money for anything it realy makes you feel better when you have things the way you want it it feels good to have that empowerment to do so.
