2011 Ford Fiesta rated at 40 mpg on the highway, overtakes Prius
Ford announced today the new 2011 Fiesta will be rated at 40 mpg on the highway when it will hit the dealerships this summer.

For those who don’t know, the new Fiesta is Ford’s new entry-level model for the United States market and will be offered in two versions, a four-door sedan and a five-door hatchback. The Environmental Protection Agency or EPA certified the 40 mpg on the highway rating for a model equipped with the optional six-speed automatic transmission.

I think the person who wrote that article put prius instead of yaris...

lol That's right, and even if there wasn't a mistake, I believe the Prius is much larger than the Fiesta is.

hmmm...
Space
Prius=94cu ft
Fiesta=85cu ft
Yaris=85cu ft
Mileage
Prius=51/48mpg
Fiesta=29/40mpg
Yaris=29/36mpg
Power
Prius=134hp
Fiesta=120hp
Yaris=106hp
Weight
Prius=3042lbs
Fiesta=2578lbs
Yaris=2311lbs
Price
Prius=$22,800
Fiesta=$13,320
Yaris=$12,605

It's weird looking at these numbers... the heaviest most powerful car gets the best fuel economy while the lightest least powerful car gets the worst.

Well, to be fair, being two year younger than the Yaris helps the Fiesta a lot. Technology has dramatically improved; competition has increased; I was going to mention how the engines were tuned because of yada yadda yada... but the Yaris is down.

The mistake on Prius is obvious.
Honda Fit needs a 6-speed to get highway MPG up.

Honda Fit needs its left ball to drop and get some styling, some leather, a lot of things. Regardless of mileage comparo's you get 1000x more out of a Fiesta in terms of features and functionality than a tinny Yaris or Japanimation styled Fit.

lol the fiesta starts cheaper than the fit I can only spec out a fiesta to $21,635. While the fit can be spec'd up to $28,648, and there is no nav option. Isn't it the other way around?

lol that's not fully loaded, that's just the top of the line model, you still have to add 10k of options to that. Oh, and while I was looking harder I found this...

on the $17,000 fully loaded fiesta
" And now, SYNC adds Traffic, Directions and Info. Get real-time traffic updates, turn-by-turn navigation and business search right through your vehicle’s stereo."

oh snap

"fully loaded" being your definition...

It must be tough times indeed , when Cut and Paste journalism is riddled with elementary childish mistakes. Its "Yaris" not "Prius" as per the hyperlink that forms your entire article. One would think the person posting would atleast check that or actually have read the link.
Sigh !
