And It Just Keeps Getting Better! Taxpayers To Foot Bill For Half Billion Dollar Clean Up Of Defunked GM Plants
The Obama administration today will propose a $536 million environmental cleanup plan for 90 former General Motors sites in 14 states.

A source with knowledge of the plan said Michigan is in line for the largest share: $161 million for the cleanup of 47 seriously polluted sites in the automaker's home state.

Congressional aides briefed on the plan say New York will get $150 million and Ohio $52 million. Indiana and Delaware also stand to receive significant funds under the program, they said.

GM just posted a profit. WHy do they need money to clean up their sites? Let capitalism work and let them clean up their own mess.

reminds me of a 8 year old after spoiling them with a room full of toys..

What you want me to clean my room???!

GM got what they wanted a free ride on the backs of the taxpayers for a multitude of bad decisions. They brokered the clean money when they got the bailout money and are now posting profits while the other hand is still in the cookie jar.

Shameful!

GM has become one of the channels used by the anointed one to give money to his union cronies.

Bad Move Obama. I'm starting to get what people are saying about out of control spending.

I was upset until I took the time and read the article and realized that the money was already given to GM last year to be used for another reason but the money now is being used to clean the environment and not for direct financial purposes. I find it hard to br angry about something they received as part of loans issued last year.

Ah, what the hell, might as well keep printing money. I wonder where that "buffer" fund will come from? This admin makes the last one look like saver's...and that's damn hard to do. At least Granholm and Michigan will get some more money to waste....that should create a few more gov't jobs. I'm sure companies will be beating down the door to come to MI after they "clean up" these sites...ha.

Uh, it's "defunct". Defunked would be to have reduced something's funkiness. Gm is/ was not funky and therefore could not be "defunked". Unless by "funk" you meant a foul odor. I suppose that makes more sense. Additionally, P-Funk is George Clinton's band. Trying to "defunk" them could lead to you yourself getting "funked up". Dictionaries will tell you A) if the word you're using actualy exists, and, if it does, how it's used and spelled. A thesaurus will give you other words to use in place of the one you can't spell, as in "...clean up of def...defunk...uh, shut-down GM plants".
