Toyota to have yet again another round of recalls. 11,500 Lexus vehicles to be recalled.

TOKYO (AFP) – Toyota said on Wednesday it would recall 11,500 Lexus vehicles worldwide because of a steering system defect, in the latest blow to the Japanese auto giant's reputation.

Toyota said it had received 12 reports of electrical problems causing the steering system to malfunction for a few seconds in four models -- the LS460 and LS460L, and the LS600h and LS600hL hybrids.

"We are planning to recall a total of about 11,500 Lexus models worldwide," Toyota Motor Corp. spokesman Paul Nolasco told AFP.

The Japanese government said the recall would include around 4,500 Lexus cars domestically.

Mamoru Kato, auto analyst at Tokai Tokyo Securities, said the latest development showed Toyota was working to speed up its recall and quality control process after facing earlier criticism for being too slow.

"After Toyota was criticised for its delays in announcing recalls, it has changed its procedure so that it can act more swiftly in dealing with customer complaints," he said.

Toyota has pulled around 10 million vehicles worldwide since late last year for safety issues and has paid a record 16.4-million-dollar fine to settle claims it hid gas pedal defects blamed for more than 50 US deaths.

The epitome of boring, the LS, is now also defective?

This is normal to see more and more issues now is getting worse for them to hide problems if they want to pay for another fine.
Toyota is already death and now Hyundai is taking his place.
Time chance, and they play with a customer loyalty but not anymore. This is a real proof how fast can you lost your loyalty and fame when you don't work properly and respect customers, so sorry.

lol I thought Lexus was so much more reliable than the Germans? What happened, as I've been telling people for years Lexus is nothing more than a myth. Inferior design and reliability

whats more reliable?

Those Mercedes "airbag problems" aren't reliability related at all. If the steering wheel is turned to its full upward position, the cable connected to the airbag might unplug since it's not long enough. This has nothing to do with reliability: it's a design flaw.

that's a proportionately large recall considering it only covers one low-volume model. uh oh.

on second thought, they probably shouldn't have bothered with this recall. the steering on the LS is so numb--and the drivers are so old--that i'm not sure many would have noticed if the steering was wonky for a bit.

Toyota quality, who needs to steer?

it's only fun to point out hypocrisy.

nobody expects much out of GM for years and years now. so if they do something right (like with cadillac), it's a wonderful surprise. toyota pontificates NON STOP about how perfect they are and about how good their quality is....but it's not. again, hypocrisy is fun to point out.

This is quite a busy article for only 11,500 vehicle being recalled... oh wait, it's Toyota...

Is this the reason why I should get rid of my LS? is this the reason I have been looking for? but I haven't had any noticeable issues with steering.

The LS is a great vehicle. This only makes news because of the outstanding reliability record of Lexus in general.

it makes news because they have had so many recalls in the past year that it's shocking that the issues continue.

vladyxa:

i believe you're projecting. again, toyota has goes on ad nauseum about their superior quality. much more so than any other manufacturer. so when it's revealed that their quality is actually quite average, it's hypocrisy. plain and simple.

i'm not the one who's brainwashed. it's the nut jobs like huu and others who refuse to accept that toyota doesn't really have much to offer.
