High Performance Buick Regal GS Gets The Green Light

General Motors Co. will build a high-performance version of the Buick Regal sports sedan, which could further the brand's success in luring younger, more affluent buyers.

The Regal GS, which debuted as a concept model at this year's North American International Auto Show, could hit showrooms next year.

Tom Stephens, vice chairman of global product development, confirmed exclusively to The Detroit News that the Regal GS has been approved for production but did not offer additional details about timing or volume.

So now dangerous old people will be able to accelerate at higher speeds... may not be a bad thing. They typically drive to slow. Maybe this will offset the difference.

If it had the engine from the VXR that would be even better I guess for fuel economy reasons they arent going with turbo 6 but it just seems more fitting for a "high performance Buick" than this turbo 4.

As I've said here before, I think GM is holding out on that turbo 6 (or a turbo 4 with 300+hp) for the spiritual successor to the GNX. I have no doubt that it will happen.

A could successor for the GNX would need well more than 300 HP The base camaro has 304. This car should have at least 300 so to me its not a true performer unless it is a very light and nimble chasis.

Good for Buick, good for GM that they create a very strong luxury brand like Buick, but bad, very bad for Cadillac. Because in automotive group like GM there's place for only one luxury brand and they must choose between Buick and Cadillac. Since Buick's line has so fresh new models it's obvious that GM made their choice!!!

Caddy is clearly higher performance than Buick and from the future cars coming out caddy is heading up market to better compete with the Germans just take a look how they have positioned the cts and are making room for higher end cars by doing away with the cts and its for something much better.

I'm not so sure about cadillacs performanceb being any higher than buick aside from their V series. I mean why does the CTS with 306hp take 7 seconds to reach 0-60? that is slow as hell for anything with 300+hp. They need to make a car to bridge the gap between 7 seconds 0-60 and 4 seconds for the V series. They need a version that wuill hit 60 in the mid 5 second range.
