Come On Now! Does ANYONE REALLY Think That Infiniti Can Challenge BMW's 6-Series?
Nissan’s ambitious luxury brand Infiniti is set to expand. At this year’s Geneva Show, the firm exhibited its new M saloon, which takes aim at the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6 and Mercedes E-Class. The car will arrive in UK showrooms in September, powered by V6 petrol and diesel engines, with a petrol electric M35 hybrid arriving 12 months later.

What’s more, the M series is about to gain two extra models which will make their debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August.

Details are being kept under wraps until the show, but one of the cars is believed to be an M-based coupe, which would lock horns with the BMW 6 Series.

Yes, they can.

If they can paint a black line on a white background, why shouldn't they be able to compete with BMW who has been innovating, setting records, and winning since 1917 (much eariler than that if you include Rapp Motorwerks).

Sure, why not?

Do we have to pick sides here? Seems kinda childish.

One thing for sure: No one can challenge frontal fugliness of 6 series....

The real question is - Do they even need to challenge the 6 series?

An M series coupe will be successful either way. Out of all the manufacturers, Infiniti does a better 3 series rival with the G37 than even MB.

Personally, if it's anyone that can compete with BMW it is definately Infiniti.

other than the agents, does anyone think infiniti take on the 6 series?

uh,,,,, YEAH? DUH??

what a joke

Well, based solely on looks, interior, and pricing, I'd say yes.

I dont get these overdramatic titles but ok. An M coupe would more than likely not compete directly with the 6 series at least not from a price stand point, its closest competitor would be the E class coupe and in size the CTS coupe. The 6 series starts at almost $80,000 the only cars that are really direct competitors are the 911, CLS, XK, and the SL to some degree though not directly. The M coupe will likely be priced alongside the E and CTS coupe not the GTs mentioned above. Either way it should be an interesting car the Ms interior has gotten great reviews and im sure its styling will be very dramatic sounds like a winner just not a direct 6 series competitor.

911 doesnt really compete with a 6 series unless you want to consider figures on the base 911 but powerwise the M6 obviously has more but the 911 i think is a better engineering piece and the brand has a lot more prestige than bmw. the top of the range 911s are competing with more expensive ferrari's and lamborghini's. its only here in america where people view porsche has a lesser brand but in europe it's a proper super car those top 911s.

while infiniti offers the best of the japanese carmakers, they still haven't matched the 3 series sedan, coupe or convertible. the G is a great value, but it's never been the best.

so i seriously doubt that infiniti will be able to take down--or even match--a top flight bmw.

No other automakter, German or Japanese has beat the 3-series, yet they compete very well. Your argument makes no sense. If it were true than Hyundai wouldnt have made the progress they did over the past 20 years. So WTF?

i don't make sense?

infiniti is outmatched by BMW. is that clear enough?

AND BMW commands a huge premium price. is that clear enough?

the two models are more likely the sub g series, 1 the electric car and the other 1 series fighter. no evidence of a M coupe from infiniti standpoint. The two drawings are of the g37 sedan and coupe. We will not get are hopes up about a M coupe to be disappointed, buy the smarter move to build your line up affordable small luxury vehicles. I wish they would build a M series coupe, but it just doesn't make sense right now.

Infiniti started with Nissan Sentra/Pathfinder/Maxima autos. Don't forget J30, I30, G20 pieces of crap. You have to see where you have been to know where you want to go. Infiniti took the easy way by badge engineering. Infiniti needs a Lexus ES350/RX350 challenger. Forget BMW.

Well I think they can if we are talking of design, but If you ask me I'll take the BMW 6 any day over the infinity unless they are able to offer better performance. Regarding the price I agree with bmwdrvr in in some points E coupe and CTS coupe are in the price range...but in design the 6 and the G37 are similar in dimensions inside and out. The E is a lot better than the 6 when we are talking about interior space...so I do not see it as a direct competitor of the 6, CTS or G37 cause those 3 are sportier than the Benz...The Benz is a diferent car. To compare the 6 against the G37 Infinity is posible only if you use an small 6 cylinders on the 6. V8 6 Series is in other league. Regarding the SL..sorry, no BMW has been able to to touch it in the same way as no MB has ben able to touch the M3....In fact those cars are the best reflection of both Manufacturers Philosohy.

Why are you talking about the 6 against the G37? These cars will be based on the M.

G37? I do not compare those cars, but a lot of people that do not know about cars, think they are in the same league when they don't. M coupe could be only if the performance is tha same or better as the 6 or CTS.

Will Infiniti be able to put out a nice, competent coupe based on their solid performing M? Absolutely.

Will they be able to price it in the $78k+ price range the 6-Series occupies? Absolutely not.

Yes, they can challenge the 6-Series just like Lexus' original challenge to Mercedes' S series. a well executed version of a M coupe could rival the 6-series in performance and features while undercutting the BMW price ~$15-20k. Game on.

Absolutely Infiniti can challenge BMW 6 series as their other models like G and M are very competitive and these 2 new models would be no different. And i am sure these 2 can't get uglier than 6 series.

lol I love insulting responses like this they may you look that much more foolish when I prove idiotic you sound....,first off the 6 series is NOT simply a 5 series coupe it is as its name would imply a deft blend of both 5 and 7 components and for the record always has been. Second the E class coupe is what the CLK was a mix of C and e class components it is not what the ORIGINAL E class coupe and thats a very expensive "true" E class coupe. It is in fact the basically the exact same size as the last generation CLK and price for that matter which also wasnt a 6 series competitor, the A5 is much closer in concept to the E coupe than the 6 series and at similar price points.... Lastly, the CTS competes with the 5 and so forth on size only much in the way the ES, and TL also are sized larger than the cars they compete with, another failed point. As far as you saying price doesn't separate classes of cars thats just foolish and I wont even waste my "logic" explaining how ridiculous of a statement that is......

Competition is good, even though I doubt the M coupe will be a 6 series challenger. I would say it's an E class coupe challenger. The 6 series is in a larger class. Would be interesting to see the new 6, and what Infinite can come up with.

only by price point, not driving dynamics. Just the the G versus the 3 series. lets be honest, no one would pay the same price for a G37 as a 335i, no one.

Why do people think the driving dynamics of porsche and bmw can't be beat? They aren't perfect, if they were, then they obviously couldn't keep improving?

the same reason why the infiniti fans here think people's main point of buying a luxury car is to find the lowest price possible with the most horsepower.....

of course Infiniti can and i can prove it..
every single g37 you see on the road could have been a 3 series..

people clearly cross shop, and many times the better value gets a decent amount of sales.

does that same logic apply to those who are driving the x type and zephyr??? Does that same uh hem logic apply to the fact a certain would be luxury car maker is consistantly losing market share every month all while being cheaper than the cars that are increasing in sales??
