STUD or DUD? Next Mercedes CLS Caught Naked In Full Production Clothes During Ad Shoot

STUD or DUD? Next Mercedes CLS Caught Naked In Full Production Clothes During Ad Shoot
From InsideLine:

Differences include a angry headlights, a protruding snout and side mirrors apparently nabbed from the E-class sedan. The vehicle being shot here is a CLS 350, which means it is powered by the company's new 60-degree 3.5-liter, direct-injected V6, which should make 306 horsepower. The CLS will also be offered with new twin-turbo, direct-injected 4.7-liter V8, which Mercedes earlier stated makes 435 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.

Sources tell the Spies these photos were intentionally leaked by Mercedes becuase the introduction on the next BMW 6-Series is VERY soon and they wanted to steal the thunder.

The CLS doesn't officially go live until the Paris Motor Show sources told us.

In other news, Bimmerfest coverage starts Saturday.

Guess Im the only one lame enough to be on a PC @ 130AM CT on a Friday (Saturday actually). Anyway, the front end and side mirrors look to "blocky" compared to the rest of the design. I like what I see though. Hopefully it will look much better once the rest of the tape is removed.

On a side note: Why is the vehicle sitting so high?

I think the AirMatic is on.

Oh baby, it's smoking hot!!!.......

Mercedes once again proved that it is possible to improve on perfection

Meh, it is just an angular version of the outgoing model- much like Merc did with the new E-class. The CLS is not a big seller for them now and I don't see that changing.

Now the Gran Coupe from BMW.......... that's refreshing.

I don't like the way the rearlights look on this new MB CLS because it look similar to the shape of the current Nissan Maxima.

Forgive me for this but this is what I thought of when I first laid eyes on the tail lamps... (I know its far off but Im just saying!)

Everyone hates to love the most recognized luxury marquee in the world. I actually like the look of it. But I will enjoy the first refresh more as they receive feedback from consumers. The only thing that really bothers me is the layout of the colors on the tail lights. Other than that I have no problems with what I see. I can't wait to see the AMG version.

They probably look better when illuminated at night...

Like most Mercedes, it is better to judge when you see it in person. They tend to live up to typical MB's prestige. I was doubtful when i first saw the E class but once I saw a nice glossy black on black E550 with beautiful zenon's drive by i automatically felt it's road presence.

Funny... being a Lexus fan, it's always the Mercedes-Benz that others hate in which I myself enjoy. The vehicle definitely looks modern - bright and uplifting and something nice to see during a gloomy day. In terms of the appearance of the exterior, the designers seem to have emphasized more on form than function while maintaining shapes that welcome people to the vehicle while pushing them away.

Too bad it came out this late - people are definitely going to compare this vehicle to Hyundai models rather than the other way around; even the average person might relate this to a Hyundai.

What Hyundai autos are potential Mercedes-Benz CLS owners going to compare? New BMW Gran Coupe and Audi A7 are in this class. Toyota/Lexus need to worry about Hyundai, which is making great cars.

So far i can say i like the current CLS more. The rear end and haunch over the rear wheels are awkward. Have to see better pictures.
Headlamps look a lot like 1999-2005 S class headlamps.

The car looks so angry from the back, and too "soft" from the front. Doesn't work too well, but not bad if you look at the design elements separately.

I like it, although I agree with Lacman, why is it sitting so high? I assume it has to do with the air suspension...

I hadnt thought about that. I didnt know that (airmatic right?) was available on the CLS.

The term "four door coupe" was a hard pill to swallow and unique with the original CLS but the more I look @ this one (and the many other cars like it that have came to market) I cant see why this isnt just a sleek sedan. "Four door coupe" is watered down and played out now...

It looks good. The rear end is a little busy like an Acura TL, but it still has a nice styling, I would like to see the inside.

The new 4 door 6 series styling is more compelling. CLS still looks too much like a banana for my tastes.

Fix the mirrors, lower the suspension, put on some real wheels, step up the interior and I think you'll have a winner...

Once a dud, always a dud. First one was hideous, this only slightly less so.

Nice to see them continuing the trend of ripping off taillight designs, this one from the maxima.

Stud for me I love the car I just see a little higher but could be a suspesion setting probably Airmatic system ? The tail light is not similar to the Nissan Maxima design but is true when you see it I remember the Maxima. STUD for me give a plus to this great evolution design from MB.
