BMW's 2011 5-Series Being Set Up To Take Car Of The YEAR?

BMW's 2011 5-Series Being Set Up To Take Car Of The YEAR?
001 has been making note of this to me for several weeks now, if not longer, that BMW's all-new F10 5-Series is going to do some serious business for the Bavarians. And although rare, I do sometimes doubt the big fella.

Boy, was I wrong.

Taking the recent macroeconomic events into consideration, one would not think that consumers would be going out and making large purchases. After all, the markets are teetering on the brink of another down leg and monthly auto sales are still struggling. Recovery, schm-covery. But sources have told the Spies the reason why recent BMW sales have been lethargic is due to the fact that all of the E60 5's have been sold out for quite some time. With production ceased there is not enough to go around.

Additionally, with the all-new 5'er coming out, order banks are filled well beyond what was forecast. Check out BMW's CEO, Norbert Reithofer's, quote from Bimmerpost down below.

Having briefly driven the F10 535i and 550i, I can confidently say it is going to really shake up the market. It is good in a variety of respects.

There is no reason why the F10 535i cannot unseat the E39 5-series as the best car ever made.

With that said, how do you think things are shaping for BMW and its 2011 MY?

Bimmerpost reports:

In BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer's recent report (full report below) to shareholders, the CEO is reporting that the F10 5-series has received considerably more orders than planned so far. According to him, BMW's highlight of the year is most definitely the new BMW 5 series.

Dr. Reithofer: “In my opinion, the highlight of the year is most definitely the new BMW 5 Series,” Reithofer said. “The new BMW 5 Series Sedan has received extremely positive feedback from the media. And our customers have obviously been waiting for it. We have received considerably more orders than planned....

Gorgeous Exterior, even better interior, comfortable, sporty, amazing engines, best in class performance and handling, and the same price as its predecessor. If this car doesn't win car of the year, then there's definitely something wrong with this world.

Like I always say BMW will always bring the full package to the 5 series being that its the best seller next to the 3 series. from what i am seeing so far this 5 series may be up for all types of awards. this should have been the car after the E39. it has a refreshed E39 look to it and its just a stunning looking car. Now that I am hearing nothing but good things about the new 5 I wonder what Audi has in store for the next A6

Best in class performance really? The S/C jag xf would blow the doors off the 550.

@Giants10

Whether or not the XF S/C would blow the doors off the 550 doesn't really matter because the F10's driving experience is so much more beyond that of the Jaguar.

If I had to choose between an XFR and 535, give me the 5'er. Sure it'll be slower but the 535 is more involving, has more than enough power and can achieve -- as I experienced -- 26 MPG.

Um i have a S/C XF and it's almost identical 0-60 as an XFR it has 470 hp do you think a 550 can compete with it, not to mention a cts-v.

I own a new 5 series and the JAG is not even in this class. I would never drive a lowly JAG (maybe I would get it for grandma)
2011 5 series CAR OF THE YEAR!
JAG???? LOL

Off course it going to take more order than they expected. The darn thing is brand, so most mew has better sales number. Not to mention if it the same price as the last generation BMW 5 Series.

I actually like the last BMW generation BMW 5-Series better this one. This one look to similar to the BMW 3-Series.

The last gen 5-series looked awkward. Also had a hideous interior. I much prefer this model.

See i find that to be nonsense, because the new m5 will be 100k+, that is what 30k higher than a cts-v, how is that a fair comparison. That is like comparing a 550 to a maxima.

Not every comparison is done by price.

From a performance perspective it is entirely appropriate.

In my opinion, the new (post Bangle) 5 series is one the best designed luxury sedan on the market. NOthing comes close to looking better than the new 5 series and its performance puts its wanna be competitors to shame.
