DRIVEN: Are THESE Guys Really Talking About Infiniti's QX56?

DRIVEN: Are THESE Guys Really Talking About Infiniti's QX56?
You do not really have to ask us about our design analysis when it comes to Infiniti's brand-new for 2011 QX56. We have already made our thoughts clear.

But while perusing a recent auto review, we could not help but notice that a certain publication has found it "cohesive," and implies it is a car you have to see in the flesh to appreciate...

AutoBlog reports:

...This isn't a segment that embraces shrinkage, so it's safe to assume that jaws won't drop when consumers discover that this big-boy SUV retains the same waist size. What is surprising is that Infiniti has let the truck's styling evolve into something that fits alongside its G and M siblings. The hard lines of the Armada DNA have been replaced with a calmer aesthetic thanks to a host of gentle curves and arches. Up front, the old blingtastic grille has been swept into a familial "double arch" design that's more cohesive with the rest of the vehicle. The QX56 still holds onto its low-mounted headlights from the last generation, though they've morphed into a much sleeker, form-fitting shape. In photos, the SUV may resemble everyone's favorite white whale, but the look is surprisingly cohesive in the flesh...

Then again, coming from the same publication that said it had "...a certain Middle Eastern chic to it..." I am not surprised.

AutoBlog reports:

...Speaking of the 2010 iteration, the previous QX56 is roundly regarded as one of the most awkward and ungainly looking luxo-barges, well, ever. In fact, if we were to put together a museum exhibit about the uncontrolled and obnoxious wild excesses of the just-ended SUV craze, the old QX would get top billing right next to a Hummer H2 and the Cadillac Escalade EXT. The new QX56 changes all that. It's world's better looking. We'd even go so far as to state that it has a certain Middle Eastern chic to it...

One's appreciation of styling is most subjective. But Nissan should and hopefully is ashamed of this. This should not even get on the road. Very sad.

Even if it is half the price of it's competitors i will not buy it. Wasn't expecting such an ugly car form infiniti after giving us products like FX, G convertible, M...etc.

This thing is from the same people that gave the world the fx, the g37c, and the m56; nothing they release surprises me anymore. Just like nothing they release is remotely attractive.

I try and give every car a fair chance by deciding if it's a stud or dud in person, but this thing just looks weird. It looks more like a concept car that hasn't been refined yet

I dont see what the big deal is other than a few odd details like the fender vents and the oddly low headlights in relation to the grill I think its a good looking suv. I prefer the look of the patrol a bit better it seems alot cleaner but I think both are good looking suvs certainly not the worst looking in this class and a million times better looking than the last QX

sorry, but this most certainly IS the ugliest vehicle in its class... name something uglier.

the Navigator....

Ditto bmwdrvr. This vehicle is not ugly. Some people are confusing "I dont like it" for "ugly". I personally dont like the new TL and I thought it was ugly until I seen one on the road. I still dont like it but its not ugly.

Oh, and that Navigator looks like it hit a fence from the front. My co-worker has one and he said his girlfriend said it looks like it has braces when she first saw it.

touche'... the Navigator is fugly, but it is basically a block shape with an awful grill and pretty bad tail lights. this new QX is ugly in every direction. it has all kinds of weirdly shaped surfaces and affectations on its sides. between this and the navigator, i honestly couldn't tell you which is uglier. it's a shame because they did such a great job with the interior on this vehicle.

a simple and elegant exterior (what else can yo do with a big block-shaped suv? trying to do too much is where they went wrong with this, imo) would have made this truck the class leader, but they decided to keep the Escalade in business. the new interior looks like it will put the Escalade's to shame.

I'm with you, shocktrooper, I really like it. The look is different and unique. Its funny how a manufacturer can get ridiculed for a risky design, and then at the same time if the risk wasn't taken they would be to conservative.

Here ye! Here ye!

Although its exterior leaves a lot to be desired, let's take this moment to acknowledge the new QX's interior is REALLY impressive.

With that said, however, its face is STILL hard on the eyes.

Hopefully Nissan/Infiniti redeems themselves SOON w/ an Essence-inspired design

The only thing this vehicle needs (IMO) is a delete option for those fender vents. I actually like the it. Its not the best looking in the class but its FAR from "ugly".

On a side note: The fender vents are allegedly functional (well the one on the driver side at least). Can someone tell me what they do?

It's a sure sign of insecurity to run the other guy down in order to make yourself look better. Very poor form.

If someone buys this thing in white and gets a vanity license plate, the vanity plate should read "MOBY DICK" !!

Sorry, I have yet to find one of these huge SUVs that I like. For instance, I love the Audi Q5 but the Q7 is hideous!
