Bmw executives admit they may have missed the model mix with 5-Series GT
Bmw introduced last year the brand new 5-Series GT but it appears it also did a little mistake. Apparently, the problem is that the car was available only with rear-wheel drive and a V8 engine.

“The V-8 was probably not the right car to launch it with,” said Rich Brekus, BMW’s general manager of sales for North America. Of course, this will change as Bmw is planning to introduce an all-wheel-drive model in June as well as a six-cylinder engine in the fall.

Ugly is being too kind to the 5GT. There are 2 of them in the parking lot every day at my current client location. One black, one white both fugly. Why oh why can't we have the 5 series wagon!!!!

It took them this long to figure this out.

In fact for a car so heavy..the V8 was the right engine. The car is so ugly and heavy that you have to be inside it to enjoy it..it is as ugly woman with big heart...You love her even when she is a fat lady. An smalle engine in the car will work only for grand pa or ma.

I wish they would bring back the 5-Series wagon. The 535xi 6MT wagon was a really cool Q-ship in my opinion.

Yes I would much rather have the new F11 wagon here than the GT.

Someone said on here a few posts back- "Yeah but the 5 series wagon (E60) wasn't selling at all." True, but the E60 wagon was not attractive either. The new F11 is hot and reminds me a lot of the old E39 540i wagon.

Don't know what they were thinking. Didn't they learn anything from MB R class? Why would anyone pick it over say the handsome X5.

This thing is Circus Freak UGLY...! I saw several of them in Orange County, CA and it was NOT a pleasant sight. I cannot it a BMW.

To be honest with you I think BMW should've NOT made this GT because they are doing really good with the other models. I love the new BMW 3-Series iS option and the BMW X6.

I remember just last week where some of these folks were cheering for the new X4 (similar to x6 but smaller) that will be coming out soon. Put this in that same category: UGLY and not a product that BMW needs. As a loyal BMW owner (and an Audi too), I don't see any benefits as to adding a model like this to their lineup. It's ugly and doesn't do much for their stellar reputation of being a performance brand. Now is seems they want to also cater to all the soccer moms, little league teams, etc too. I thought we had mini vans for people movers.

I have always said BMW missed the mark with the 5-Series GT.

Bottom Line: If you create a car that serves no real need and looks terrible, its sales will be a disaster.

Perfect Example: BMW 5-Series GT.

...ohhhhh the V8 engine. Of course...That was the reason people didn't buy this.

Similar problem with the Pontiac Aztec. They used the wrong engine in that one too
